Hi all,

Ever since VPCUK has been back online since the dark events of July 2008 (http://vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15550), we have been hosting with Xengo (http://www.xengo.co.uk/). Since then, our site has seen an impressive 99.98% uptime, which is better than it used to be with our old hosts. We've also been delighted with the general speed of the site; even during peak times there are no problems with accessing VPC.

We would like to offer our services to the community here, and as an incentive Xengo are throwing in a free domain (worth £9.95) with every hosting account. Xengo offers feature-rich hosting packages at an affordable price. For just under £25 you could have your own hosting package with your own domain. This also includes access to a powerful control panel, a sitebuilder, and fantastic protection against spam and viruses with all e-mail addresses (Justin can testify how powerful this spam and virus protection is). It's also possible to install popular PHP scripts with the minimum of fuss, including galleries.

To take advantage of this offer, visit this link (http://www.xengo.co.uk/myaccount/cart.php?a=add&pid=10) to order.

One last thing: every hosting account Xengo sets up is created within 10 minutes of payment being received - great if you like things done right now!

Cheers,

-Kev

Have the shambles that was the DR solution been resolved? Does VPCUK have the resilience to prevent those dark times from happening again?

Three nines uptime is all well and good but counts for nothing if you don't have decent backups.

Two seperate SQL backups are taken daily to two different locations, niether of which are on the server, so i would say so yes Dave.

Yep that's right.

Xengo also grandfather backups. That is to say that a daily backup is taken, a weekly backup, and then a monthly backup - so we have 3 to pick from if it hits the fan in the future :)
