Hey, I saw this soapbox sitting in the corner and thought I would jump up on it and say I HATE TINTED PRIVACY GLASS ON CARS - ESPECIALLY 850s!
In particular, I do not see the point when the law prevents all windows being done anyway - it just looks bloody silly to have half them done!
Oooh, I feel all faint, coming over all opinionated like that. I expect I will get loads of hate mail about this :bricks:

Your entitled to your opinion mate, that's what the forum's all about. The fact that I have tinted windows and love them has nothing to do with anything.....I'm just off now to ban your account for clashing with my views....LOl...:mischievo

personally i think they are good,& protects the interior from sunburn lol, & keeps personal affects harder to see from outside to the mungrals that go lookin ...& safer when pulling out of a junction wen the sun is in your face, takes the glare of the sun & better to see wots comming,
& at night is even better, people cant see in attall,& those that say its dangerous at night....wind the window down....if your vision is obscured then dont move the car....open the window....
it aint dificult lol.......but as you say.....they look crap with only half a car done.
america dont have a problem with it,....far more yanks hav tinted windows than us britts lol

Hi Guys...I personally luuuuve tinted windows,i had a dark green 855 done about 8 years ago. It looked mean moody and cool but unfortunately there were hundreds of little white dots (dirt) under the film which in the end drove me nuts,so i had the lot ripped off.:mad111:
I think a saffy would look Gr8 with dark tints.

I think I'd have rear tints if they were fitted but it's not on my priority list.

Had them on mine, however a couple of small marks hacked me off so i took them out, will need to get them redone tho. Coppers will allow you to take them out there and then if needed ( ie stopped at night ) or give you enough time to drive home ( if during the day ) to remove the front two windows. Never heard of points or fines being doled out yet for tints, only a requirement to remove them

I have ummed and ahhred for last week or 2 about gettin mine done on my S60 but being as I had them on my Last car.. decided to spend the Money on a Private Plate Instead this time....lots of cars got tints but not as many wiv private plates so thought id be different..... off to DVLA at 8am tomorrow to get the new plates registered onto the T5 woohoo....... at least with less numbers on the new plate.. it wil be less weight so will drive quicker... lol.. well thats my excuse and for the bloody price I paid for it im stickin to it...lol...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bounce:

If only the whole car could be tinted, that would look great... hence the reason it works on concepts etc!

FYI, its NOT illegal to tint the front driver and passenger windows as long as the tint film allows 75% of natural light through. J

I got the OEM Volvo sun blinds for my V70 p2.

Looks like a tint but costs less & can be removed to clean the glass or show off who (or what) you have (or are up to) in the back.

(that looks/sounds really very dodgy now I've typed it!)

About £60 for the lot (or it was) and it looks *almost as good a s a tint.

My basis on window tinting is as follows;

If its a very clean sharp looking car (ie is new or looks like its been well looked after and immaculate - Volvokid for example) then it looks good.

Tinting a rusty banger looks awful.

RR Sports looks good tinted for example.

Its been lowered on T5R springs which are 20mm lower than standard ( 1390mm as opposed to 1410mm ), but i agree it needs a bit more :D

It is lower than it actually looks in the picture though its just sat on a slope :B_thumb:

think ive stated before on here that i got stopped during the day and done with front tints they were dark but not limo black, got the tintman device used on them, told to sit in back of there bmw, never given option to remove or tear a bit off them, never gave them any cheek or nothing, was told it was £60 fine + 3 points, i took the option not to pay or send license away, was gonna go to court to argue that it passed mot with them and the previous owner had put them on, but about a month later got letter from procurator fiscal saying they werent taking it any further,,this time.

Think I poked a wasps nest there! Anyhow, is it the case that any phase 1 V70 had dark-tints factory fitted? I sometimes see this on used adverts but find it hard to believe.
I suppose the truth is ALL our cars have tinted windows these days - my first cars, Dolomite, Imps, etc, just had clear glass - and I bought a green IMP CLUB sunstrip for the top of the screen. So, I hold my hands up! We follow different fashions so each to their own...

Now I will have to get some of the old photos of my cars from the '80s scanned in! Mate of mine had a mucus green Chevette (talking of Mk 1 Cavs) - we fitted an HS 'droop shoot', but that was all the mods he could afford having blown his cash on a Nikki twin-choke carb, so we painted the pressed steel wheels Hammerite white, then, thinking this was the coolest thing ever, I went off and painted the Dolomite's wheels and front grill white(see, its those grills again) - arghh. Hideous .
Fitted twin SU's to the Dolly, and constructed a ram-air system out of cardboard for it. Failed dismally - the rammed air just forced the carb pistons open and caused chronic misfire. Once the pots on the SU's were painted red, I reckon I got 0-60 in about, er, 16 seconds - which was pretty exciting at the time. The Chevette was a rocket though, 0-60 in 15!
Memories.....don't get me started!

Sorry Cam i knew what you meant mate, chopping smithys front ones on saturday, seen it done on the fronts before with no problems, as long as you dont have novimats on you should be ok with the backs but start a new thread and get the clever people involved im sure there will be some knockers there always is but as long as its safe no probs, just like putting lowered springs on?
