just been told by someone that they reckon the engine in my 2002 D5 is a VW unit out of a Transporter, told him i knew of a few that used the D5 block on a T-5 engine so i assumed it was a Volvo unit?

is this guy right? (i hope not i sold the 480 after i found it had a Renault engine, don't want to have to sell the D5 already lol)

as far as volvo told me its there own engine but the old v70 diesel was vw. have you herd the noise a vw diesel makes? sounds worse than a tank compared the the d5

say i didn't think it would be interchangable with the T-5 engine if it was made by VW. I know the noises some of the VW petrol engines make so dread to think about the diesels lol

Although wasn't the T5 series engines designed by Porsche ?...sure I read that somewhere. A friend of mine who is a Volvo for life type of chap (older gent late 50's early 60's) changes his car every 3 years (before they need an MOT basically) He wouldn't let his missus get the new Fiesta because it was a Ford and was most upset when I told him that the V50 2.0 diesel he was driving had a Ford engine an Focus floorpan !

Just to chuck my hat onto the ring on this one, isn't the Volvo T5 five pot a development of the Audi quattro 20v turbo unit?

atleast the 850 just does as its told & gets on with it, not think about everything then decide it knows better & only give you ? power & with a nice gentle build up just to make sure your nice & comfy (if i wanted comfy i wouldn't of floor'd it lol)

Yeah, but at the same time, if you did want the power without the safety side of things, you may not have bought a volvo?
