I need a new clutch for a manual 855 t5. I live both in the midlands and in oxfordshire. I can get a clutch off gsf for 130. Any recommendations for a garage that can do it? I'm told it's a simple job that takes ages. I know nothing about cars mechanically. I can change the oil and jack it up so far. Could a noobie like me change a clutch over in, say a week? Using axle stands? Cheers guys I need the advice! Best so far is £450 in all, including clutch cost.

Martin
PS will the regular t5 clutch be ok with my 280bhp, or should i look to upgrade? Sensible money!

Take the old girl to see Ian @ DPA in Nottingham - superb service, very reasonable (have a word re: the supply of the clutch too as they may be able to do better than GSF) They should be able to do a lot better than £450.00

And yes the standard clutch will be fine for those extra horses.

DPA is definetly your best bet + they will do the rear main oil seal while doing it as they are only a cheap part but a gearbox and clutch out job to do!

That's great moppy and lance, just one thing - who's DPA! :D
Did a google and a yell, no inspiration! I can say that I was recommended by someone on here, if that helps anyone?

And mikej, my old volvo fitted clutch lasted 90k before letting me down under hard acceleration. Was on last legs noticably after 70k. If that's of any use!

Thanks all

310 RICA upgrade and I changed the clutch at 143k, the extra power doesnt hurt the clutch untill you power launch!

I met a guy in Wicks car park the other day with another V70 T5 P1 that he had bought from nearley new ex demo its now done 229k still on the original clutch! Mods including induction system and a boost valve! :jaw:

Dave P is by far the cheapest and best value for money around,
He changed my release bearing on my old car for £150 plus the cost of the part,This was gearbox out too.
Prices might have gone up since then as this was last year,
I am based in London and it really is worth going to him to get it done if you don't trust anyone else with your car,He tells you as it is and doesn't take the P.

DPA, well Ian the lad that works there has done most of the work on my cars for the last 3 years, pre VT. From an engine transplant, to clutches, turbo's, replaced rear axles etc. Undoubtedly the the finest Volvo garage in Notts, way ahead of Speeds (who are dam good i may add)

They should have a website i think :)

For those of you for whom Leicester is a little closer than Nottingham, Sheffield and Meredith are also very good on both cost and service.

0116 247 0344.

Been using them for a year or two and had great service so far. They did my clutch as well.

Sorry about that. Pzorb filled in for me.

Very roughly, they are opposite Leicester Royal (over the other side of Welford road), on one of the smaller back roads.

enrm6, are they any good? The quote he gave me for the work was SUPERB! Like HALF what DPA were talking about. With the right clutch and all, with VAT in too! :O

So good bunch? Know volvos? What's their main business?

Cheers!

Well I use them for all my servicing now. Used to go to speeds in Nottingham. However when they started to treat me like a less than valued customer and wanted over a grand for two front lower arms and a clutch replacement I decided to try elsewhere. Got the same from S&M  for £550 with a coolant change and some other bits as well.

They are friendly, helpful, do nice things like: last MOT would have failed beacuse the rear exhaust hanger had rusted through but they welded it up for me and just charged me an extra £9 on the MOT; MOT reported brakes were worn, so a few months later when I got it serviced I picked up on this and said I might as well get them replaced then. After the service they said they were still worn but not worn out. They would replace them when they needed it!! They are also cheap.

Obviously this is my opinion but they are a small independent Volvo specialist and everytime I go there are volvo's everywhere, forecourt, pavement, road etc. all waiting to get work done.

Also I'm going for a cambelt and water pump change next Monday - so I do genuinely use them.
