engine removal lol

hi guys . how easy / difficult to remove a t5r engine and whats the best way to tackle it. as i think its rebuild time lol. cheers

Best way I found is to lift the car off the engine and subframe and wheel it out. I made a wooden frame/dolly with big castors for the subframe to sit on, and removed all the necessary parts.

The best thing about this way is that all you have to do is unplug the fuel rail and leave it hanging in the engine bay, no draining needed, and you don't need to remove the driveshafts, just undo the two bolts above the front hub/steering knuckle, and some other easy bits, then drop the whole car onto the dolly, undo the subframe bolts, and lift the car up off the engine.

Only thing is you'll need something to lift the car (which isn't heavy because the engine is out, but the front bumper needs to be lifted over 3-4 feet to get the engine out).

Bombwould a v70 t5 engine fit an 850 t5r

If the V70 one is not ME7 (ie the engine you want to fit is pre 2000) then you have a chance.

I did mine the same way as bomb although mine came out without the head on but went back in complete. Don't underestimate how heavy the front clip is though and don't try (as I did) to lift the whole thing back in with a trolley jack (gets a bit hairy I found !). Far better to hire an engine crane or A-frame (I use a modified swing frame and a block and tackle !) and position it over the engine bay (that's why 850 bonnets tip back so far !) to lower and lift the whole assembly. My 850 has an S70 block with an 850 head but I can't see any reason why the complete pre-me7 lump won't just drop in.
