Hi there,

I've only had my T5 for a few months and have not used the geartronic on it much at all. However, when I have used it, I find there is a severe amount of lag from the point when you push the stick forward to when the gear actually engages, especially when accelerating hard. Has anyone else found this and also, would the RICA remap make it any better?

Cheers...

that is normal best thing to do is shift earlier and by the time it changes gear you should be just before red line.

Maps for manual and auto are different mate so it's highly possible.HTH.

It takes some getting used to, but you soon do become knowledgable about how it shifts.

The best advice I can give is get the gearbox oil flushed/changed. Makes a big difference to how the box shifts. Also, get the gearbox software updated. Chances are it hasn't been updated at all since new. The later software can improve many aspects of the geartronic boxes.

Cheers guys....

BTW - Hey Cornclose, where did you get the silver surrounds on the knobs on your stereo from? Assuming you have the same stereo as me (HU 603), mine are just black buttons.

Its called Gaytronic for a reason......

its only really useful for holding a gear round twistys... like 3rd to stop it cahnging on you as you lift off for the corner and going into 4th... then having lag as it changes back to third.

Its useful for a very fast over take.... ie getting the car into the right gear to overtake so that you dont have that second delay on change down, but if you use it for that then as soon as youhave your foot to the floor put it back in "D" and let the auto do the rest.

Having use it on a track I can tell you that as a fast driving aid its a gimmick, it does not give you the flexability of a manual and you shouldnt see it as one. Its an auto. Software upgrades make the gear change smoother but not faster.

I seem to remember making a similar comment but getting loads of grief off the auto lads! I'll keep my mouth shut (and left leg exercised)...

I don't find it too terrible, but the box sometimes "clunks" when I take third gear.

I really ought to not take off from lights in third eh?

I totaly agree with all of this. ^^^

My box also has a bit of lag. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once youve been doing it for a while, it becomes normal.
