The dreaded light came on recently and I had the codes read. It showed code PO172, System too rich bank 1. I suspected the front Lambda but I did some digging on various Volvo forums here and abroad. I then checked the small rubber elbow which connects a vacuum pipe to the inlet manifold on the left when looking under the bonnet. This connection is pretty well hidden by the top hose but it's located to the right of the power steering pump. I got a torch to see it clearly and it looked as if the rubber moths had eaten it away. To be honest it looked as if it had been like that for some time. I ordered a new one from Rufe and fitted it after a bit of a struggle but no more light and the engine is smoother and pulls better. An easy fix for less than a fiver.
