I have noticed 'dampness' in the passenger footwell and also a faint coolant smell every once in a while, does this mean the heater matrix is buggered? Can someone please tell me the symptoms of this fault!
many thanx, Don!
Ps, there is no sign of leaks underneath the car!

you might notice a slight 'fishy' smell, if so that'll be the coolant going rancid in the carpet.
coolant loss is the dead give away. steamy windows as water inside car evaporates is also a good sign
you could do a temporary bodge by isolating the heater matrix while the weather is nice by bypassing the matrix altogether while you source another..
