How do the AFR meters that you can buy work ? Do they use the lambda sensor and give and AFR reading based upon the stoichiometric ratio of 14.7 to be ideal ? i.e. a Lambda value of 1 equals an AFR of 14.7 ?

So is AFR = Lambda (equivalence ratio) * 14.7 ?

the expensive gauges which cost a couple of hundred £ i think have the actual AFR displayed in the middle (ie 3 digit display showing 14.7etc) so as not to confuse, some have a bar display around the edge for ease of viewing

Yep, I've had it confirmed from a number of sources now, AFR = Lambda * 14.7 (for a petrol engine).
