Hi there,

2 questions;

1. Does anyone know of a place/website that sells an Upgraded Heavy Duty Polyurethane Transmission Mount (http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-S60/Engine/Engine-Mounts/Heavy-Duty-Polyurethane-Transmission-Mount/p-74-392-761-3330/) (clicky) in the UK?

I know partsforvolvoonline sell one but done think its got the uprated bushing.

Also is it a worthwhile upgrade? And has anyone noticed much difference when changing theres?

Was thinking of getting this one (http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-S60/Engine/Engine-Mounts/Heavy-Duty-Polyurethane-Transmission-Mount/p-74-392-761-3330/) from IPD and fitting it at the same time of upgrading wishbone bushes to powerflex and upgraded drop links. That way most things will be done (suspension and bushes) and I can get the tracking sorted.

2. Are the upgraded drop links (anti-roll bar links) worth the extra money? Or are the stock volvo ones just as good?

I do regular driving on uneven roads with plenty of annoying speed bumps and potholes. so was thinking of getting the uprated ones from here (http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_536&products_id=5941)?

Thanks

I'll be fitting the uprated front drop links from IPD to my car on Monday (along with LOADS of other stuff... he he).

I'll report on how it goes probably some time next week.

Thanks cornclose. Will you be doing this yourself or sending it over to DPA?

Let me know if its a streight forward job and if you followed any particular guide/write up.

Thanks

PFV sell Powerflex bushes - about 34 quid posted

Just done it (Auto ME7 V70) slightly more viabration at Idle, but way smoother gear changes

and

http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/produc...roducts_id=5611 (http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.php?products_id=5611)

Swapping Tie bar took sub 5 mins (2 nuts/ bolts) (excluding jacking and puting on axle stands) removing old bushes took a tad longer

I do have my old Tie Bar that I have stripped, and so would be ready for putting in bushes

edit ---

http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.php?products_id=4479

that is a copy part of origional - however some scantech parts can be of questionable quality.

well worth taking note of dooby, as they are shouldered bolts into gearbox, so use a 6 sided socket, NOT a 12 sided, or spanner, as IMHO it would end in tears.

Hi

Yes, I did get it all done. To say that the change is startling is an understatement. I'll do a writeup shortly, I havn't got the time right now. :-)

I'll be interested to see how the drop links went. Mine ate its N/S one on the wonderful concrete Everests that my council tax pays for.

Right I have my hands on some powerflexed wishbones (thanks John with the v70!)

I was hoping to change the wishbones along with ball joints and drop links at the same time. Now I have seen people mention that the STANDARD Volvo drop links are just as good as the IPD ones.

Partsforvolvoonline dont have any FRONT s60 IPD drop links in stock and wont have for some time. In this situation would you hold out for the IPD drop links to come back in stock (Which they say could be several weeks) or just go with the standard volvo drop links? OR the alternative is to buy uprated REAR IPD drop links (which are in stock) and STANDARD volvo FRONT drop links. Is that a bad idea? Should they be matching all around?

Alternatively if anyone knows where I can get some uprated IPD drop links other than IPDUSA or partsforvolvo then please do let me know. Thanks.

Last question - Ball joints? Which ones? Direct from Volvo or from a website?

In my humble opinion, I'd use standard Volvo items all round. The versions that are sold on Partsforvolvos are not great quality - I had a set of inner track rods and track rod ends for the steering rack of my V70 and they haven't lasted very long.

Just so I am clear...by standard volvo item all round, do you mean part direct from trader/dealership?

As the cheapest quote I have had for a pair of drop links (front) is £92!! Now compare that to £30 for a pair from partsforvolvoonline or nordic and I'm wondering if the volvo parts are really that much better? They cost 3x more..and the same goes for ball joints. In fact, the ball joints are almost 5x more expensive.

I know the quality may not be as good, but my question is, has anyone been happy with their droplinks and balljoints from places like partsforvolvo and nordic? OR would you still recommend shelling out so much more for genuine volvo parts.

I think its taking the biscuit costing that much more. But thats my personal opinion.

The Scantec drop links from PFV only last about 10K, i have now fitted IPD ones from PFV and these are much much better. Cheap drop links dont last long and start making knocking noises. I would get Volvo or IPD links.

Try Rufe at FRF Volvo - http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/member.php?u=544 he may be cheaper. All I can say is that the track control arms and track rod ends that I fitted were non-original and wore out much quicker than the originals lasted. Factor in the fitting and realignment with these and I'm none too pleased. Maybe drop links would be a different matter as they are pretty simple to fit.

In fact all the Scamtec cheap parts i have bought for my T5 have been poor. I have tried the following Scamtec parts:

1) Drivers door check strap, which broke after one day.
2) Dizzy cap, didnt fit well and caused hesitation and misfire.
3) Rotor arm, didnt look the same, looked very cheap, binned it.
4) Drop links, knocking after 7 months only 10k, cheap but dont last.

I need top mounts soon for the front, ive heard that Scantec ones only last a year and arent worth the bother of taking all the struts out again.

I wouldnt get Scantec bits, get Volvo or a known good alternative.
