This year for me is about getting my cars body tidy & 'restored', the previous owner (from new) really cared for the mechanical side of the car, sadly, didnt seen to give a stuff about the body. After my last 850 i thought its easier to buy a car with a slightly tatty body than a 'mint' body & very tired mechanicals.
Anyway, its rear bumper time!!!......Heres how I got it & I've lived with it for far long enough!! You're on borrowed time Mr Bumper!!!

yukky eh? I got a very good condition bumper for free (jammy git eh?) about 18months ago. Nows its time!!!! Off to paint shop for some lurvly 419 Silversand & 5 coats of lacquer!! (paint shop owned by a mate so got mates rates on the paint job
Piccy uppy o'clock! Mint job, the 'marks' you can see are nothing but reflections.

Time to remove bumper & refit!! Majorly seized nuts/bolts & blatantly not been removed since '96!!!!!! Upon removal the discovery of the bumper 'brackets' where absolutely destroyed by time/rust!!

EEEKKKK! off to Volvo...'2 bumper brackets please', 'sure, £27 for the pair please sir', thats not too bad I thought. While waiting for the delivery courier known a Mrs Niles I whipped off the dead weight known as an unused tow bar. Home she came with nice shiny new brackets!!!
Installed!!!!

'That your house mate? says the postman, 'yes, why?' 'got a parcel for you'. 'Ta!!!'.....while the back ends off the ground...install parcel contents......

If you are ever planning to remove you tow bar you must remember the exhaust hanger is different. I got a 'no tow bar' hanger yesterday. Fitted it & now I think the exhaust sits better. After much wiggling, nudging & general attacks of OCD heres the end result. Total cost to me was £87.

Next mission. Get both sides painted & after that...wheel refurb. Have to say im chuffed with the result & I used plenty copper grease on the nuts & bolts so hopefully won't have seizure issues in the future.

Looking really good, wish I could get around to doing my bumpers, the rear looks like yours used to and the front is in a right state after hitting something on the motorway about a month after re painting the damn thing.

Dude, you should have got an AWD bumper, then you would have had the cutout ready to fit those twin exits you're after.

nice, did you notice any difference with the MSD coil?

yes, a little. It works very well & no problems with it. It seemed to smoothen things out.

I did a deal on a AWD bumper ages ago. The seller really messed me about, and in the end refunded the £80 I paid. Then I got offered this 1 for free, it was a plan/dream ages ago to fit a twin exit pipe & i thought why not just make a template from the existing cut out then cut out the other side when the time comes. Thats still the plan

yes you do mate. 960 body (ported & polished) and a inlet manifold from a N/A 850. (has the same size inlet port as the 960 body so no major porting. Just a smoothing & matching)

ooooooohh! me like shiny bits. Heres a scabby old regular 850 throttle body next to a grubby, not cleaned or ported etc 960 one so you can see the difference.
