Hi,

Camskill have the Kumho Ecsta Sport KU31 for £57.60 each - any good? Can't see any cheaper ones I'd rate, personally.

Have both on at the moment and they seem more than satisfactory.

Thanks very much everyone , for your help.

I have had a set of Nankang NS2`s in the past, but they seem to be priced near the better range of tyres now !
From what i can remember there no pilot sport , but good while they lasted the 20 mins of lifetime.
How do they compare?

The search goes on !!!
Cheers

Vredestein Sportrac2 's the only decent tyres for heavy T5s, they also protect the rims well with the sidewall, I got 18k miles out of the fronts and they still had 2mm left on them, the rears were virtually untouched.

on a powerful car like a T5, I wouldn't touch budgets, and IIRC Wanli are a definate No No, I had Nangkangs on my My MR2 when I got it, and in the wet, road holding was almost Nil.

Some good points above - I've settled on the Vredesteins personally, although I've never got 18k out of the fronts! :-) It's true though, the design of the side-wall does help protect the rim and they give good grip wet or dry - also a good deal cheaper than some other branded hoops.

Kumho tyres are great value and they balance beautifully too, plus they last decent mileages too. :)

I have Kumho Ecsta all round (215/45/17) no problems so far, wet or dry.

You would be surprised at how many tyre companies there are now e.g.not many.

I'm running Nexens on my T5's 16's, haven't noticed any difference in wet or dry grip from the Goodyears that I run on my other wheels (which are Volans). You'll find that a lot of middle range tyres (I won't call them budget 'cause they are the very bottom of the price range and should be avoided !) are actually made by so called 'big' brand manufacturers. Stunner aren't a bad tyre and are made by the same group that make Pirelli. We fit all sorts of tyres at work to a variety of cars from 4x4's to Porsches and all the middle range tyres we stock and have fitted we have never had a single complaint.

BTW mine is RICA'd and no TRACS, so I think 18k was bloody good.....Never had such a good tyre on these. I swapped these out for Goodyear Eagle GSD3 (made in Germany) and rear ended an RS4 in stop start traffic near Wetherby Serrvices. Those tyres were awful, the ABS was grabbing like mad (dry clear and about 20°C), which meant the tyres weren't doing their job, never ever had that problem with Vredesteins. I have since gone back to Vredestein. And would only put these on a heavy car now. The dutch have similar damp greasy conditions to us , and I think make a better tyre..... The winter ones they make are second to none allround.

I will try out Kumho in the future just out of curiosity or if I cant get vredesteins.

As per the above, Khumo Ecstas would be my choice. I had a set on my old 330 bhp S70 and they handled it pretty well.

im after some cheap tyres also. im looking for rubber life rather than wear. i had considered the Vredestien's only they dont do the Sportrac in a 205/45/17. what alloys are you running to be able to fit 215/40/17.

215 40 17 Yokohama Parada spec2 set of 4 can be had for £270 delivered off ebay at the minute. Then fitting at a local tyre place shouldn't set you back to much on top.

i had considered the Vredestien's only they dont do the Sportrac in a 205/45/17.

I currently have the Vreds Ultracs (directional) with profile 205/45/17 on my Comets.

At £100 a corner, these were the cheapest tyres that I have had fitted to my V70R. Previously Michelin Pilot Sports at £150 each, and before that Pirelli PZeros.

I'm disappointed with the Vreds since at 20,000 miles, the sidewalls are ££££ed  Motorway use only without blasting up and down green lanes.

I may also now be forced to buy a budget tyre.......:frown:
