Hi all, im after some help. i own a 97 S70 T5 120,000 miles.
Tonight it overheated for the first time ever.
Needle went not quite into the red.
Coolant is at max level, clean and no signs of oil.
Oil on dipstick is clean.
No signs of external leaks.
Heater fan blows hot air in car.
Coolant fans works on slow and fast speeds.
Car drives and runs ok apart from temp.
Gurgling noise from thermostat housing after switching engine off.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks.
Mark.

Super-easy to rule it out if so. There's a thread on here (or there was...) - have a search - or just whip the thermostat housing off and lift the stat out. The one of mine that failed on an old T5 was quite warped and you could easy see that it was stuck.

Thanks lads. fitted a new thermostat tonight £6.50 Eurocarparts.
Took car out for an hour and all now seems ok.
Thank god, no head gasket!
We can look forward to our week away in the Lake District now.
Mark.

Good news. Also, I love that phrase "took the car out for an hour". :)

LOL. Actually, it was more like it took me out for an hour. I just held on with gritted teeth! LOL.
