Another out of interest question here, not that I would use Halfords for a T5....but.....

Can service items like oil filter, air filters, plugs and leads be bought from Halfords?

Obviously oil can!! Mine is using Mobil 1 oil that was bought from Halfords and the rest of service items from Volvo, although Volvo parts are bloody expensive!

In a word......yes. Customer service leaves a lot to be desired though.

you need to shop arround, sometimes europarts are really good and on somethings i've found my local volvo not to be to frightening genuine plugs and bosch leads are fairly good on ebay. i got a new bosch lambda sensor of there the other week bout £50, £175 odd for genuine volvo (gulp) which i suspect is likely bosch anyway was certainly what came out of mine anyway.

You cannot buy spark plugs in pack of 5 at Halfords. Also champion oil filters are rubbish and leak, and champion spark plugs are not good enough for T5 and run badly. I wouldnt fit cheap brake pads either in a T5 as they sqweal and are noisey not to mention not as good at stopping. I have found all this out from personal experience. Halfords is very convienient as its open late and at weekends but i would only buy oil, air fresheners, car audio, bits and bobs etc.

I have gone back to using genuine parts (from Rufe = good discount), its less convienient as you have to wait for delivery but cheaper in the long run and trouble free.

Halfords seems to cater more for Corsas and Saxos, expecially in the tuning department.

Unless a plug goes pop then you should have a good idea when you will need the bits, so an early phone call to Rufe will have them delivered to your doorstep just before you need them.

That way there is no need to waste time going to Halfrauds in the first place!

Why would you want to get ripped right off for very mediocre parts and crap service?

Deal with a medley of Partco (for fluids-open a trade account) ECP, Ruff, PFV, RT (for genuine but discounted) and Chad (for dismantled parts)

Honestly, unless you have bad luck, these cars are no more expensive to maintain than a mondeo...

i brought a previous cataylic converter from Partco which lasted 3months before starting rattling like the one it replaced, i'd never touch them again after they refused to in any way towards a refund

I've used eurocar parts a few times andthere very good, bosch stuff is strong and as good as any, infact I ask for bosch everything now. As for (very well named above) Halfrauds, I wouldn't even buy an airfreshner. They price everything at about 50% over and above what its worth.

air freshners, sponges and clothes is as far as i would go with them! if they where any good, a company that size with their buying power would beat anyone hands down if they wanted to undercut anyone in the trade and offer a service second to none at a cost that was competative! would easily be the leaders in that field! wot do they do? keep the shareholders happy and mark up as much as possible! and as for staff, HI, my names Colin and well who cares? sorry to all Colins, no disrespect! lol.... they even bought Ripspeed years ago who were reasonable! but Halfrauds decided let's charge much more! stack them high and sell em cheap, that's the way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must say that the staff are fairly, um, well......crap!

I used to buy service parts for my old workhorse from there, a Ford Escort van. Always wondered though on the perfromance side of cars if they catered for them?

Way too expensive so definately not lol. Bought 2 bikes for my kids at christmas from them. Had to argue for the special offer I was originally offered and the rear wheel on my 6yo sons bike started to sieze by mid janurary. I got them to build, shouldn't have bothered.
