Don't buy ex-plod. You will regret it in the long run. This is meant with no disrespect to those that have.

In my experience - it will be knackered, full of holes, basic spec, no service history details (other than possibly dates) and will take more than average to get right. Generally the police will put 10 years wear into a car in 3 years. Yes, you will be able to get a newer model (e.g P2 for P1 money) but even with the servicing the police do, these cars are used 24/7, battered from cold, bashed into things and normally not well treated. I think the money required to put them right you may as well get a private sale where you know where you are and put in less to get right. You can then chose from better spec levels and I feel there is less pot luck involved.

I am not criticising those that have bought explod. It is my opinion that getting an 850 T5 is best bought from the private market. Try and get one just over the cambelt service ~80K. Chip the seller for faults such as faulty heated seats, air con issues, rear hangers for the exhaust, power steering noises. There are other common faults - see the 850 common faults thread - that can be used as leverage in the price. Most will not be deal breakers.

Good Luck

Hi...mines up for sale. I have to have my opinion on xplod, I've had mine 5 years and the only things that went wrong were the drivers window switch and the return spring on the drivers door internal opener....oh and wobbly fixed the abs control unit and I can honestly say thats it. It has been stood for 6 months (apart from taking it round the block every now and then) since I bought my new toy V70R awd. I've been delaying advertising it cos i still like it and it still feels quicker than my R. It has done 140k and is a 97.

Markt4...no i havn't advertised it yet, its manual and the engine runs as sweet as a nut, thats probably why I've delayed selling it because it could have turned out to be a doner car to my R. If you are interested I can post all the info.

Mark There are good and bad of both kinds of T5 private and Plod,
Just be sure if you do buy a ex plod that it has some sort of history with it,
I bought mine from a enthusiast and i knew i was getting a bloody good car,
As it had nearly £5k worth of reciepts with it,
The car has virtually been faultless in the last year since i have owned it,
Just keep your wits about you and take a trained mechanic with you and a compression tester make sure the car is cold when you see it,then take it out for a spin, any alarm bells walk away..
