Well bugger me......i finally went to VT this morning to get my lambda light problem diagnosed. Its fair to say the boys were pretty disgusted to find out the light had been on for 30K miles and not been properly looked at. (you know how time just gets away from you)
Anyway, fault found MAF sensor buggered, O2 sensor fault code also = wallet buggered. :frown:
Alas, as im a bit strapped for cash at the mo, i found my way back up north to my local Volvo breakers and got a second hand (tested) MAF sensor fitted to start with and the codes cleared (to see if the O2 sensor had really gone or just was screwing up cos of the faulty MAF).
£60 lighter and 10 minutes fitting, 2nd hand MAF in place and no light anymore. (VT the O2 sensor seems to be fine but time will tell over the next few days).
The car now does boost slightly higher than it has been doing as predicted it would and now pulls like a train again as its fuelling correctly, also visibly less soot from the tail pipe after hard driving.
Specialists are worth seeing as it must have taken about 5 minutes for the fault to be diagnosed and you can rest assured that the advice given is correct, reputations to uphold and all that. Also saves you a couple of hours labour at a garage where they are not quite sure what the problem is.
So if your lambda light comes on get it checked and dont leave it like me, i must have spent more than the value of 2 new MAF sensors in petrol since my light came on.....and if i knew it was something that simple to put right i would have done it ages ago.
Cheers VT
And bring on normal fuel consumption :viking:
