My beloved old bus will be due new brakes before too long, and I am considering my options around the brakes.
I've got the standard wheels (16") and fancy keeping them. What are my options here, I'm looking for good retardation, without squeeling and poor cold performance.
I don't mind going Volvo original parts, but I'm not sure if the 302 mm brakes will fit under my existing wheels.
If that's the case, I'll stick with original size parts.
Thanks in anticipation.....

Hey Rob

The 302's wil not fit behind the 16" Columba's

I think they go behind the Perfo's though

Id stick with genuine volvo disks and get some decent pads , maybe DS2500's or EBC's

if ur keeping ur 16s then u cn fit any aftermarket brakes of the standard size,
drilled,grooved etc etc.
it all depends how much you want to spend.....
each brake varies in working when cold or sqeeling etc..
squeeling is usually down to how well theyve been fitted,ie with anti squeel shims, copper slip etc..
if u want to keep standard wheels then u hav made ur choice...
its just how much u wana spend.

Most people say that Genuine OEM ones are as good, if not better, than any of the grooved/drilled aftermarket ones of same size/caliper.

The 302's would fit under Perfo's, just the same as std V70 issue, although apparently they don't really offer anymore bite, just more resistant to fade.

As Cameron says, good uprated pads should make a difference.

We done a S60R the other day and the guy swears by EBC Yellow's, He paid £103 for the pads for his, but id imagine the ones for the T5 being smaller would cost less.

Ive heard some good reports on the Green ones as well, but theres a few guys on here that like the DS2500's.

Im due some new pads in the next 6 months so im pretty interested in what peeps recommend.

Unless i have some 17's by then, then i'll go for the 302 set up with decent pads.

Depends on finances at the time.

I've got greens already in my track day BMW, I don't think they'll like the weight of the old bus somehow!
I'll look into the EBC's though, they do our little e30 proud.
Cheers mate

Hi,

Does the 302mm disc upgrade need longer brake hoses too??

Cheers

I think it depends on the year of the car, I upgraded a 96 850 to 302's and I bought the longer hoses, once I came to fit them though I found that they where the same length as the ones already fitted. I'm sure Rufe will be able to tell us for certain.

Think i heard some of the later 850's had the longer ones anyway :D

 just noticed your name V70stu, is the clue in the name or do you actually have an 850

they are listed as being different, there is part number for the 280mm setup and another for the 302mm setup. Some people have told me the same as Tomcat though, where they have the smaller setup but the same length hoses. I couldnt tell you if the difference was even down to length, it could be something else, but without having them both in stock to measure i wouldnt know. Part numbers are different though.
