I do mainly short runs, with the occassional 1 hour long run. Varied driving, from Vicar to playtime, and get just over 300 miles. I reckon with longer runs and less use of the boost, I'd get nearer 400.

Im unsure tbh

Before i had the PCV done and all associated hoses i was lucky if i'd get 18mpg around town and 38 on a run.

After a good blast today and £30 worth of V power i was averaging 39.6mpg on the way home and that was cruising at 70mph :D

After a light bit of town driving ( driving miss daisy ) i was still on 35.4mpg :D

Ive never had the money to fill her to the brim but i reckon if i did id get 400 +

cameron
Sunday 12th April 2009, 00:45
Hey Chris

Is yours an Auto ?

The autos always seem to be worse on fuel than the manuals :(

Ive only had the above readings by driving as though driving miss daisy, not over 2.5k :(

No performance but all the frugal consumption, so best of both.

Lovely armchair comfort and large diesel consumption :D

Hmmmmm i have a Mitsubishi TD04HL-19T fitted perhaps thats behind the 18mpg, i never even considered it until reading Fridge Movers post? i still think 18mpg is a bit excessive!

Usually get between 325-350 out of a tank which is mainly short journeys with a 30 mile drive once a week. Fuel computer says it averages 26.

Thanks for this thread :) Reminds me why I drive a D5, computer says 700 mile range when I fill up. I was having dark thoughts about a P2 R, this has bought me back to earth with a bump. From memory my 855R did 280-320 per fill up.... ouch.

Carry on...

lucky me. Last year i did a run from Kent to Budapest. Got 465 miles from a tank full of Shell V-power (100 octane) (Yep! 100 octane!!! That's Euro spec V-power)

got 389 on a trip to edinburgh last week which averaged out at 29.3mpg, suffice to say i wasnt cruising at 70 :shifty:
oh and its an auto S70R

I've just done a 200 mile round trip to Anglesey in my '99 ME7 T5 auto and I managed to average 33.7mpg, and thats fully loaded with camping gear, two dogs, two kids and the Mrs! I did drive 'properly' though, only giving in to temptation to put all the windows down and nail it through the Conway tunnel, what a lovely noise!

I get 390+ with day to day commuting and the odd blast. I can easily get 440+ on a good motorway run if its clear. I have a T5 auto with rica 280 map. I also try to use super unleaded every other fill up where possible. If i use my car around town i only seem to get 15 -17 mpg even if i take it very gently which is very bad, so i dont do much town driving in it. Using super unleaded gives a good improvement in mpg for me and helps offset the higher cost of the fuel.

Well there are so many differences between 850s/early Phase 1 V70s, and late Phase 1 V70s with ME7, that it's not worth comparing them...

I used to get up to an indicated 31mpg on a manual 850 T5 on a motoroway cruise and 34mpg on my ME7 T5... much worse on the autos.

well i get between 220-260 miles to a tank ful of normal unleaded but my driving is all start stop start stop. I drove in the motorway the other month and my computer told me 400+ till empty. I have no doubt that its the type of driving that I do that makes the consumption so bad. Every car I have ever owned is always crap on juice.

Monday 22nd March 2010, 22:47
I get around 260miles, but never really let it get to the point where the warning light comes on so I'd say 300miles.

Getting new plugs and leads tomorrow as mine are shot so that should really help matters. Plus mine's an auto running about 12psi on a manual boost controller

Always less than one would like! Average 15 mpg in London, but much better on a run when I can behave myself (about 37 at 55mph in light traffic on motorways in warmer weather - but then I get VERY bored).

Interesting thread. My recent T5 purchase seems to be holding out at 24.2 mpg that with a good bit of M25 motorway driving too Grr.
That said I've just serviced it so hoping the MPG will creep up, and the pending removal of the FSE valve to see if that makes any difference.
£50 of V-Power (at £1.20/litre) is offering about 230 miles - Cough!

i did have mine displaying 23mpg on avg after 2000 miles driving. reset it accidently (DOH!). currently sat at 18mpg due to only doing two one mile journeys a day, i really need to give her a run!

I got 34.9 on a long run (was up into the 35's when I didn't spank it)

average about 31 around town but it's mostly shorter runs of a just a few miles.

As for the mileage, never run the tank right to empty but about 350-400 per tank.

Lol my trip computer says 18.6mpg atm but i only had the car a week or two and i keep gunning it about lol, o well you only live once and if u cant enjoy it why bother, i like someone else in the thread have never had economical cars, seeing as my first car was a 150hp xr3i and then an s2 rst and went onto a subaru impreza which was crazy on fuel, i think the main thing about volvo's is they have massive tanks, if i find a cheap lpg conversion kit i will get it though.

I think the most I have managed to fill is 73 litres - hell of a weight of fuel.

I reckoned it was best to fill half way as the 'fuel' is not dragging around dead weight (if I am on a long run then I will just fill to the clicking...)

i've never filled the tank but getting 23mpg around town and that's with some boost used so better than my 4be sierra at 16 mpg will be filling up soon as got a 400 mile drive there and back to go to freinds wedding's so hpefully don't use all the fuel in that trip or it's going to be the missus's diesel which is ok but boy is it slow.lol

I'm getting around 150 miles for about £30-£35. I'v not filled my s70 to the brim since i got it, 70 litres of v-power would be over £80. As long as it stays over 20mpg i'm not to concerned, its the price you pay for having a big powerfull car, i suppose.

filled her up yesterday and have done 400 on motorway and A roads up to perth. thats the flat areas, the south downs and the lakes. lots of hills only a couple of minor queues. that was 73 litres of fuel at £119.9 p/l and thats standard 95 ron sainsbury's fuel. not bad concidering the computer showed tank range of 310 when i filled her up! i think i need to take a look at the pcv though
