View Full Version : Roof spoiler fitted, not quite right!

They don't make things simple those Swedes!
After much umming and arring, I managed to figure out which parts of the fitting kit went where, and eventually, in the pitch black, got the spoiler up and fitted:slap:
Only thing is, as I lower the hatch down, the left hand side JUST catches the n/s light as it passes. It's very marginal, but it clears ok the other side. The part that catches is the upright arm that passes the side to support the spoiler.
I could nt get the paint to match, so at the moment, it's satin black while i try and find the right paint (again)
I'll post some pictures when I get chance, but it's a bit of a bugger to do on your own for the first time! (now done)
At least the spoiler was only £20:shhh:

Thanks Mark, may take you up on that if the meet goes ahead.

@ Pete, thanks for clearing up that confusion!! PMSL, what with the thingy's, and the whatsanames, I was just relieved to get the bloody thing on the roof.
If you can perhaps be a little more descriptive, it might help!!
I'll post some pictures tomorrow, might shed some light on it.

Cheers guys.

Right here we go with the pictures!

One apparently correctly coloured spoiler! (Gits!)

Brackets as fitted, the supplied screw bolts catch the rubber seal, and the upright fouls on the light, but only just.

Spoiler on, after not being able to get a 1/2 decent colour match, it's in satin black for the moment

All in all, I'm pleased, I'd just prefer to get it so the brackets don't catch.

Can't help with the brackets mate, I 'll be in the same boat when I get one for mine. Could it just be down to adjustment?

Where did you get it by the way? Ebay? I missed one yesterday, sold for around £20 all in!!

Braydon motors in Hackney.
They sell under the eBay username dianeelizabethnicholls here http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/dianeelizabethnicholls?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:11 81

and shop link here http://www.braydonmotors.co.uk/
They had a few in when I was there, and they wanted £8 to deliver it. They ask £20 for the spoilers, and can supply the brackets at the going rate.
The only adjustment I can find is fore and aft, not sideways.

Niles has those brackets on his car. Im sure we used different bolts though
as his doesnt catch.

See if you can get the same brackets that i have as the bracket hook onto
the tailgate hinge & the only fixings are those on the spoiler itself.

Where did you get those from?
Mine are Volvo kit, so I guessed they'd fit best, but looking at yours, there's no "side bolts" for it to foul on......... confused.com!

Where did you get those from?

Attached to the genuine Volvo spoiler lol.

I havent seen a part number on them so im only guessing that
they are a factory issue.

Don't know if this helps but this is the OE one fitted to mine.

Yes it does thanks.
It would appear the new brackets are made up of components, whereas the older bracket is one piece, and presumably slightly slimmer.
Bugger!

Angle grinder time:ready2go:

Glad you can see it Rob, as they look very similar to me!!!

If it's only just catching then I'd go with your plan of filing/grinding wherever you can.

One other thing, what's teh tailgate alignment like? Not closer to lights/rear quarters on one side than the other?

I think looking at the pics that you've gotten slightly confused by the fitting kit. In the kit there where two flat metal pieces, I think you've put them under the bracket and attached them using the tailgate hinge bolts?, if you have then remove them and just use the bracket that clamps around the hinge.

Here's a piccy....

AH yes, you can see it now.

There looks to be another bracket/piece of flat under the new bracket on yours Rob.

OER, I see what you mean, and will try it out. I did read elsewhere it was required for spacing, but I'll give it a go.
Thanks guys!
