my t5 seems to have had a stainless exhaust for most of its life judging the condition of it.
but with a cat and 2 boxes it was far too quiet, i wanted to hear the 5-pot.
yesterday i took it down to my mates who runs a powerflow dealer to get it chopped about.
i wanted to keep the cat but were very tempted to remove both boxes, until he started cutting.
we cut it just before the middle box and fired it up for a demo, too hardcore even for me.
it had a nice turbo whistle but sounded like a big john deere ploughing.
we decided to remove the middle and pipe it up but keep the backbox.
now has a very nice tone, still slightly quiet but pops and bangs like a firework on over-run.

now i cant drive anywhere with the windows up :pimp2:

Mmm but what's it like on the motorway?, I had a single box system on one of my other 850's and it sounded great around town, but on a motorway it would drone like mad.

Easy solution is to have a set of ear muffs for motorway driving.
Or as nath has found out go faster

you can buy a Y-piece with a switched or cabled flap, its a hot rod, race mod.
you weld it in the exhaust before the boxes, run it closed, it works as normal.
but open the flap and the gasses are just dumped out the by-pass.

ive always wanted one, must do it one day

Mine is standard but since the re-map the note is much deeper at idle, quiet on cruise and sounds great opened up. Maybe I'm just lucky!

its true going faster does work, exhaust note goes almost silent when held at 4k rpm... which in 5th is not 70 ;D

found something called an ECV (exhaust control valve) by APEXI.
you fit this inline in a LOUD exhaust and the flap alters the sound by limitting the gasses.
what i wanted was a Y/T piece which directs all the gasses thru the system or straight out.

cant find one
