All the major tuners (BSR, RICA, MTE/TME, Upsolute, etc) will chip your ECU by return mail.

You might prefer to go to the tuners with you car and have them set it up for you in situ, though. I don't know who would be closest to you?

Gathy,

Assuming you have already been through stage 0 tuning (see knowledge section)
in my experience VT everytime.

Leeds to Bromsgrove - a mere triffling distance for a T5.

If you are into remapping - I think you would be much better off going to Volvotuning - as they have all the experience, tools, dyno and products to make the best out of your car and they will tell you if anything needs doing going forward.

Yes you can plug and play a lot of this stuff but do you really know if there is an airleak or there is a fault code you don't know about. I think it better to get your moneys worth and have it done properly?

thanks.do we have a rough price guide
have seen some firm that does a 260 chip for my baby. obviously would prefer this to the usual 230 chip.
and also would like the car to be standard looking under the bonnet if one day i decide to test the airbags .lol (insurance company unaware)you know what i mean :B_steerin

A re-map of the ecu doesnt show any visible differences, however 260brake versions may need full exhaust systems including race cats, also if some offer the 260 and other dont ask what the reliability is like for them as they surely would all offer a similar level.

Jacqs is 260.2 bhp, and 305 lb/ft, also a phase 2 T4.

However this was not achieved using just a remap as was said, it has a custom exhaust, cone filter and cold air box, and sports cat. Insurance wasnt hugely affected by the mods mind you, and IMO you should always declare all mods, not worth not doing so, IMO as I said.

The map was a TME stage 2 one, with custom modification on the software done on the road. I would be surprised if you could get 260 from a remap alone, I think purely on a remap and no other mods 230-240 would be the absolute max.

Although I would probably have preferred to get a RICA re-map, I have to say that the Upsolute job is suberb value for money. At 236bhp and 370nm of torque it really does make a T4 flywithout doing much else to it. Before you do a remap, make sure that everything else on the car is perfect though. I would also recommend a strut brace and that will certainly be the next thing I do as the torque steer is pretty fierce.

Drove a 2litre T S40 the other day, basically the one before the T4 and floored it in 4th, car nearly ended up in the bus stop at the side of the road, as mentioned above the torque steer on them is really bad, dont get it on any other Volvo's so was very shocked when it happened!

Yes i too was shocked.and the 20 t IS only 160 bhp. t4 is 200 with 300 lb of trqe so it makes matters worse but saying that when i bought her she was really bad but i got her tracked which made it alot better, controlled.the thing that freaked me out was it spins underboost in 4 th in the rain and spins up easily up to 3 in the dry under acceleration.do get me wrong the car is a thrill to drive but its for the wrong reasons.its like been in a old rs turbo.with the technology available today i would have thought a limited slip diff would have been fitted as standard.
as for stut brace i wouldnt have thought this would improve matters but ill let you know because it on the list when i lower the car.
i must admit that its more thrilling to drive than my old 98 850 t5 saloon and feels alot lighter and does return 28 to 30 mpg when driven quickly,i cant do normal so i couldnt tell you the normal figures sorry lol :B_steerin

Just had my T4 RICA'd and have to say that I am very impressed (Cheers Adam/Hamish)
Didn't get a Dyno, but the car feels so much better now.
Also on the strut brace line: Hamish recommended not to have one as it will exagerate any steering problems that may already be present (or smething like that).
Next comes the Ferrita downpipe and a bit of suspension work :D

Gathy, the T4 has 300NM, not 300 lb/ft as standard, its about 221 lb/ft

and whats all this torque steer talk, even in a 2.0T, theres something wrong with them then, or perhaps you lot need to get down the gym lol.

Jacqs is 260 bhp, 305 lb/ft (414NM) and it doesnt torque steer and jump all over the road uncontrollably. In the dry it spins the wheels 1st and 2nd, but not to the point it wont go anywhere, swift progress can still be made, and fine in 3rd.

So it seems odd theres a lot of torque steering, tractionless standard T4's and 2.0 T's, I would be looking at suspension and tyre problems as the cause, not power.

In fact, even when driving Asoks 305 bhp 19T equipped T4 I found it would grip in 3rd, traction control in 2nd popping away and it was twitchy at the front, but thats to be expected, it was making way over standard torque, and was still perfectly controlable if you were on the ball, hardly an undriveable handful.

Anyway, sorry to go on, just thought I should defend the T4's before people think they cant be tuned without being dangerous, I have seen no evidence of such.

GATHY:
I went to Volvotuning and have to say they are top blokes. The whole thing cost me £515 including fitting etc... WELL WORTH IT!

As for the Torque steer problem, then I spoke to Hamish about this and he said very much the same as Ross, the problem isn't the power, but the suspension may well be knackered or on it's way out.
Just waiting on Adam to get me aprice for some new shocks and springs then I'm off back to VT for a bit more Work.
My Advice (for what it's worth) is take a trip to VT, you wont regret it + i may get a £25 reward for a recommendation :D

With regard to the torque steer "problem" on the T4 I don't think it's dangerous, but it is far more noticable after remapping. In my case the car has done @ 96,000 miles so my shocks will not be the best. I am sure new shocks and springs (&17's)will help it but they will have to wait until I can bribe the bank manager.

The car really os a wolf in sheeps clothing and absolutely murders my mates' Subara Sti and Honda Civic (in the dry), especially in 3rd and 4th gears. As they have spent at least £14,000 on their cars this really does P**S them off. :haha:

Titch, what have yu had done to yours to make it take on an STI???
Mine feels a lot quicker, but can only just about pace a WRX (had a go at one on the way home from VT). All in all I'm impressed with the setup, but she still feels a little sluggish, think a good Stage 0 tune may be in order, then maybe a dyno to see what she actually comes out at

Ross going down the gym wont get rid of the torque steer though will it! Its something thats just not present on the likes of the 70series T5's and the S60's aswell so was genuinely shocked when got in the 2litre T S40 as it was the first turbo'd one ive ever drove.

The car itself was really nice, full Volvo bodykit, must have been 17' alloys, full black leather with the black interior trim and must have been one of the last ones made as had the updated lights outside and had only done about 15k miles so wouldnt have thought it had any suspension problems! Sorry my knowledge on S40's is really limited.

No offence to any S40 owners here but the one thing which I thought let the car down massively was the gearbox, the ratios and everything are fine its just when changing gear its really sloppy and loose, would benefit massively from a short shift kit if one exists for them.

Enigma,

The car has a full Volvo service history and all I did was give it a full "stage 0" service, got it Upsoluted and run it on Optimax at all times. Initially the Subaru is faster because its got far better grip, but once the speeds build the extra torque of my car seems to win the day.

Aftershock,

I think you maybe just got a shot of one with a duff gearbox. The change in mine is far better than my old 850 T5.

ive taken on two wrx and both left me for dead , mines a standard t4 and dont know what mods the wrx had but they were both 04 regs.
as for the torque steer , mine suffers badly with it , but i can live with it , its not that bad of a problem to me , but it is my first turbo car so i cant really coment at the mo.

Titch probably may have been a duff car especially with the torque steer but its weird as it was literally mint inside and out and with being so low miles would never have thought it to be like that. Ive not driven an 850 so have no idea what the gearboxes are like in those!

to add to that i was on my way to ligh££££er valley in nth yorks on sun when i came across a 54 plate carrera so i glued myself to his bumper to see if he was brave and what you know he was off.i tried hard and he was pulling away but not £60000 worth of pulling .i maintained a nice 100 metre gap and we both was doing well over 130 on a straightish road to a r/about where his m8 was in a tvr tuscan.they both were off so i was on them both.the old tvr toasted off(look of the oncoming traffic) leaving me and the carrera to battle it out and they was no doubt he was trying very hard to shake me off.it just turned in to stupidity he was going for it on double whites and alsorts but all he could see in his mirror was a white volvo(i would have thought it was the law if it was me)stuck to is bumper.we maintained this silly game for 10 miles but it was the best ten miles ive ever had in my life.ive had some fun but this took the biscuit.and my cars standard so remapped it should make it shocking to many fast machines.
wish i could have been at the pub they went to to see what they said about me.
like i said before its not about speed its how big your balls are on twisty roads and my balls came from whale.people buy fast cars but cannot drive them, anybody can go fast on a straight road.
180 mph car 30 MPH BRAIN
any body see me ?
