Font Suspension overhaul i fear

Hi right sorting out my rather hammered front suspension.

I dont have the cash for FSD's at the mo but will get round to it as soon as i am back in work! bloody recession.

When i look at my shock towers under the bonnet i can see the shaft of the damper sitting a clean 15 mm up from the mount! is this just my spring mounts (lower) or my tops as well? how do i know i cant see any craacking but the jaggy black bit is clear of the mount!! if you need pics i can take some..

CHeers oh and are anti roll bushes a bas to do?

Can't remember seeing mine any different from that. I'd say if the rubber in the top mounts isn't badly crackered or chewed up then if you'vre having trouble it might lie elsewhere in the suspension.

when you push down does the top bit stay still and the caar slide up and down it???

They rotate when you put lock on as well.
