Apart from the engine, what other differences are there between a T5 and a 2.5T (V70 if it matters).

Does the T5 have different suspension (uprated, lower?), different g/box, different options?

Is anything different cosmetically, I can't notice anything to my untrained eye!!

Are we talking about the phase 1 V70?

The T5 has a 2.3 litre engine with the high pressure turbo with around 240bhp. The 2.5T will be the 2435cc engine with a light pressure turbo with around 193bhp. The 2.3 T5 will have better tuning options as the 2.5 is thought to be a weaker engine with its larger bores, etc, etc.

Interior trim can vary on both models (the CD model being a top spec). Gearboxes tend to be the same, or only very slight differences. And AFAIK the suspension was only lower on the R models, but I am probably wrong (someone will clarify).

Check out this page on parkers for all the specs and options

So as I thought, the only difference is engine.

I find it a little odd that the T5 model only really denoted an engine, it's not any different cosmetically, nor mechanically (apart from the engine), unless you go for an R model.

Its not just an engine, more a hyperdrive.

Colonel Bjorn: Prepare the Volvo for light speed.
Dark Helmut: No, no, no, light speed is too slow.
Colonel Bjorn: Light speed, too slow?
Dark Helmut: Yes, we're gonna have to go right to ludicrous speed.

That seems to be the way of the Volvo, everything is available as an option. I ended up buying a 2.5T as I could not find a T5 that met my requirements at the time. But the car had been spec'd up with Winter pack, Sport pack, Comfort pack, Wood pack, etc etc so much that cosmetically it was that of a high-end T5 without the abuse that all the T5's I could find had received. Add a RICA upgrade and (I know I am going to get flamed for this) performance could be close to that of a STANDARD T5, plus the smaller turbo means less lag.

Still only get 22mpg on the journeys that I do :-(

I've got an LPT engine in mine, and its great.

That's the one thing against the LPT engine (other than lack of power), they do seem to be worse on fuel.

I haven't given up yet Rob, just getting fed up of looking!! I'm starting to edge towards a V70 now, the slightly newer interior is swaying me. Finding myself looking at 9-5 Aero's as well
