I had to top up my P/S fluid yesterday, the level has dropped from spot on in January, to below minimum, roughly 8 weeks later. There's nothing dripping from the car, no pools of anything on the floor at all.
Where could the fluid have gone?
I hope it's not the rack.... I've heard that's a bugger of a job....

Try the rack gaitors bud - my fluids were low & nothing dripping for a
while & then the nearside gaitor exploded & there was fluid everywhere.
Crawl underneath & give them a gentle squeeze but be prepared for the
worst by putting some rags down first.

Sounds like your power steering rack has gone. Your looking at £700 upwards for a new rack fitted and don't be tempted to use a patent part. There are products out there that will stop it leaking and they are very effictive so there worth a try, but they are only a tempory fix.

I sourced a nearly new rack for £114 delivered & my local independant
Bmw garage fitted it for £100 (no invoice).
18mths later its still going strong.
