help with fault code

Hi all, can anybody tell me what this fault code is and how to get it sorted thanks Adam. P0116
Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance Problem

Code is suggesting the engine temp sensor has had a nervous break down and is sending spurious signals to the ecu, 1st port of call for me would be to check the resistance of the temp sensor to make sure they are in range ( sorry don't know what they should be and don't have access to auto data until I get home ) but seems likely a new temp sensor is on the cards :)
