Just getting round to servicing my S60 t5 manual, 2000-2001 'x' reg. Its done 53k.
Last time i got it serviced i remember the last volvo independant i used saying that the recommended oil in the service manual was like "water" and that a thicker more expensive oil was recommended by him.
I was wondering what would be the best oil to use for the car, really want a good quality top of the range oil.
Any advice would be appreciated.
cheers

Volvo originally specified a semi synthetic 10w40 e.g. Castrol 'Performance'. I would go for Valvoline SAE 5w40 SynPower or SAE 10w40 fully synthetic. Castrol 'Advanced Magnatec' would do vey well also. Anything lower would be too thin and probably increase oil consumption.

Or you could use semi synthetic and change it twice a year.

Hi. IMOA. Your going to get lots of differnt views on what oil is best.
Whether it be shell , castrol , esso , morris oils , carplan , valvoline , elf , millers , ect,ect.......
The oil it requires is a good spec 10w40 semi of fully synthetic it depends how much you want to spend and how often you are going to have it changed.

But wot do I know....:talktohan

cheers for the advice, yeh i think valvoline is what they used last time. do mainly motorway driving at the moment, price is not too much of a concern, whatever is best for the car and runs the smoothest....

Mine's run Valvoline SynPower fully synthetic 5w40 from it's 100k service (it's now done 145k). Uses very, very little between oil changes. I'm very happy with it.

I ran Mobil 1 in my previous T5 as it was cheap from Costco, but the car drank it as it was so thin.

I use 5/40 valvoine fully synth which will probably be good given the low miles, I plan to change mine to 10/40 soon as its getting through the 5/40 between services.

Mine's run Valvoline SynPower fully synthetic 5w40 too, like a number of others in this thread. Come to think of it, I think we all go to the same independant specialist....
