I've notice some of the T5's have 160mph speedo's, while mine has a 150mph one :(

When did Volvo change them? and can I change mine to one? For no other reason that I want one! :wiggle:

I know I will have to change the whole clocks.

Mine has a 160 mph speedo and thats a 1996 model year car although it's an R but doubt that means anything....

The best thing to do is see if the speed sensor that the speedo uses for its signal is the same on a car fitted with a 150 mph speedo when compared with a 160 mph speedo equipped car. If they are the same part number I think it is safe to say that the speedo clusters will be interchangeable. :)

Anybody happen to know the p/number for the speed sensors?

If it helps Paul iirc Volvo changed them late 95.

So with yours being early 95 it only has the 150mph clocks,

Simple to change though ;)

I don't think you'll be needing 150 / 160 mph readings!!

Save yourself the hassle and leave it as is.

As I sad, I fancy putting them in because I can! :P

My 24v Sierra has 170mph clocks in it out of a Cosworth, there's no chance it will ever get that high, but it looks good.

I enjoy 'swapping' bits around, its a hobby, I've done it to all my cars.

No, I'm not ranting, just thought I'd explain abit more. :D

The 160 mph is not quite enough on my V70 off road of course!

No being funny here but are you serious??

160mph is one hell of target.

Would that mean that RT Russ's 510bhp monster would hit north of 175mph dependent on gearing?

I don't know about you but I would be bricking it at that speed in a Volvo estate...

Let me know more!!

Cheers

There are some that use GPS to show speed when speedo runs out of numbers on the autobahn's

russ's t5 would hit that atleast, i expect he's upped his rev limiter aswell, so that will give even more top end. Even a stock t5 with enough road will do 160.

Doubt that there's anything "stock" about Russ's car!

I think that at 155 on a hill..... 160 would be but a clutch push away!

I however do not condone such speeds under any circumbstances!

Speed will always kill, regardless of the badge!

I always thought, 'Its not speed that kills, but the sudden stop at the end!'

(Take in a light hearted way)

I expect the change in clocks coincided in the change from gear box calculated speedo to ABS sensor driven....
There were also several types of Instrument panel, 150, 160 and those with the trip computor system....VDO is the most common..

So, some had a cable, and some didn't?

Hi Paul
All are electronic but the Phase 1 are run from the gearbox and the laters from the ABS wheel sensors...
Which is why a phase 2 gearbox is not compatable with a phase 1 car....
