Yes is there any oil in the water also most typical colours are blue and orange the colour does darken after time but use a good antifrezze and there should be a 2yr protection its not expensive to buy

Best way to describe it is it makes the header tank almost scummy looking with a film round the tank :)

could well be, in fact thats what made me look, i saw a film on the inside of the tank from the outside, so what do i do now?

I would flush it out and then top back up and see if there are any leaks but i dont think its very easy to flush the rad repair

Flush it through add clean antifreeze then just await the leak lol, the antifreeze breaks the BARS down over time so just keep an eye on the coolant level , not much more you can do other than that :(

just a thought, how solid are the water pumps, am i correct in saying it runs off the cam belt?

i think the waterpump should be changed every cambelt change(120.000km)

and yes the cambelt drives the waterpump.

thats correct, allthough not to alarm anyone as if it hasnt been changed for a couple of years it could still be green in colour as volvo only recently switched over to blue.
