Blue Estate racing my bro's chavved Astra on M69 (or M1) sunday, was it you?

got a phone call from my brother yesterday saying he had a little play (ok admitted he got p*ssed on) with a blue T-5 estate (didn't say if it was a 850 or V70) on either the M69 or the M1 wasn't sure which sunday about midday.

He was doing 130ish & the Volvo kept overtaking, slowing down then overtaking again to prove a point

Bro was in his 1.8 modded burgundy Astra, if it was anyone off here well done i like your style :B_steerin

cheers Andy, i know the old Calibra were 2.0 turbo, but also know the new Zafira's are 2.2 turbo so wasn't sure which it was (i want to try one of those Zafira's, see how high you can crank the boost up :sinner: )

I think i may be the person to blame for this utter lack of appreciation for any other car than the T5.

You see the thing is since owning my T5 i have quite honestly been on a mission to find anything to match it's performance, also i just love to show these kids with the suped up microwaves exactly what power/speed is.

Plus last weekend i had the pleasure of having a bit of a cat and mouse battle with an M3 convertible on the M42 near Bromsgrove (which incidently had Gum Ball 3000 splattered all over it and had a camcorder mounted between the two front seats).

I've been looking at M3 forums but am yet to find a thread from this guy, stating that he was travelling at 145+ mph and was left for dead by a Volvo.

To be honest i don't ever think he'll let on about it, but if he did i'd like a copy of the tape for prosperity....!! :haha:

The Morrette headlights for the astra's are stupidly expensive, personally I had the Hella quad ones when I had my astra many years back!

The Coupe turbo is as mentioned above a 2litre and is quite nippy, its not T5 quick in any area but they give a good turn of speed considering what they are.

As far as im aware all turbocharged petrol engines by vaux are only 2.0ltr.

The red top 2ltr in the calibra was a stonking engine, now they are ecotec and are more restricted.

I may be wrong but hey who cares hehe!

confirmed mate, the zafira is a:

2.0i 16v turbo - manual

- 7.6 secs 0-60mph
- 200PS @ 5400 rpm
- 250Nm @ 1950 rpm
- CO2: 225g/km

Andy is right all are 2litre turbo's, they have never made a bigger turbo petrol other than in the lotus carlton, however theirs supposed to be a V6 turbo model coming out in the Vectra thats just been fitted to the Saab 9-3 and then theirs the new Astra VXR, 237bhp in a small hatch, should be nice and quick!

They do a 2.2 N/A engine but the GSi was the turbo 2litre, unless they did a sport 2.2 or something, dont tend to keep up to date with Vauxhall!

What Mods to the engine has your Bro's astra got? I had the missfortune of owning one once & flat out, downhill I saw 123mph top at the limiter. The gearing's the same right? or has he fitted a different 'box?

I used to own a mk4 Astra 3dr 1.8 before my T5 and I had that upto an indicated 136 one night with two people in the car as witnesses, in reality was probably less than 130 taking into account the speedo's being out but it was still pulling.

he's only got a K&N cone, de-cat pipe & a performance backbox, not sure about the gearbox but it the speed was taken off GPS

Bah, I must have had the worst box on the options list fitted. 123max on the road angel, 4K+rpm @ 80mph & fuel economy very close to the T5's! (no bull)

If you had the mk3 it might have had a different box, Vaux change things all the time on their cars so their a nightmare to keep up with.
