Hello my OBD11 plug doesnt send a reading i have had it pluged into around four different machines but none can get a reading from it, is this a common fault on the 850's or has any one else had this problem and knows how to fix
cheers pete

Where have you taken it?, are you sure they had the correct software/hardware?. The 850's aren't fully OBDII compliant so unless your dealing with someone who's used to Volvo's then they probably won't have the right machine for reading the system.

VOL-FCR will read your codes with the correct lead but no other readers will. Your car is not fully OBD compliant. I've tried at least seven different readers on mine and some of them with about six or seven software programs for some with no joy so you will have to invest in the VOL-FCR software if you need it. I think the VOL-FCR program can read live data and fuel trims to a certain degree aswell which is useful.

all 850 T5 models come with the 4.3 motronic system as was pointed out to me by another forum member. The 4.4 motronic is on the lpt models and the 70 series I think.

Pete, as has been mentioned your car runs a 4.3 Motronic ECM..., it IS NOT OBD11 complient in this regard..., the ECM will however produce flash codes...

The 1996 850 T5 will produce flash codes for the Fuel, Cruise and ECC Ecm's, everything else will need a OBD11 reader, or VOL-FCR

However the OBD11 reader and VOL-FCR will not produce flash codes so you WILL need to build or buy a flash code reader....

HTH
