Horlicks...I've had the car less than a week and it wont start today whilst at the fiancee's house.

Had the AA out - patrol was a top bloke but had no luck re-starting it & i've been advised to get it relayed to the main stealers in Lincoln where I live.

Basically it turns over but doesnt fire up. After a few attempts it gives the 'immobiliser see handbook' message. Looking on the web etc it might be the antenna ring?

I dont need to go back to Lincs until Tues PM so I could try and obtain/fit one tomorrow. Has anyone tried changing this themselves? Is it a big job? any specialist tools fitted as I only have the basics here with me.

Hi Kev,

It's a very quick and simple job - you remove the lower half of the plastic steering column shroud (three torx screws I think) and will see the antennae ring around the ignition barrel. Carefully unplug the connector from the ring and slide the ring off, over the ignition barrel. Slide on the new antennae ring, connect the wiring plug and put the steering column cover back together. It helps to free the adjustment lever on the steering column to make it easier to remove the plastic cowl and I always disconnect the battery before messing around near the airbag!!

Cheers,
john.

No probs Kev - make sure you know your radio code before you disconnect the battery!!

Cheers,
John.

Predictably the car started without problem later that day - I had tried 4 or 5 times in the interim to see whether it was a typical 'self-fixing immobiliser problem'.

However, following a gut feeling I'd put a gallon of petrol in - as the the previous night I'd parked up with only approx 1 gallon left in the tank, intending to fill it up the following day.

Now I dont know whether the low fuel reading created a problem, whether it had sucked up some crud etc or had indeed just fixed itself! Bizarre!

On a brighter note i've booked a RICA upgrade...
