Hi all

I've been browsing the forum for a week or so to gauge opinion on the best remap companies around. There seems to be a general consensus that MTE is tops, whilst RICA gets some varying reviews.

However, looking in my local area (Notts/Leic) i've got a good price from a local ChippedUK agent of £275inc for approx 284bhp on a p2 2001 S60 t5.

Anyone had any experience with their software? I've trawled some forums (fora? fori?) and there is mostly positive reviews, with the few odd strong/negative opinion - but that appears to be the same for every remap company!

Cheers
Kev.

No, CC Tuning in Notts - apparently one of their regional agents. Is your advice based on the quality of their software or customer services? (or both?)

I got my 280 Rica from Bromgrove HLM. No problems, smokes the tyres very easily, pulls bloody hard and better mpg if driven sensibly and i can use normal unleaded. There are lots of t5's on this forum with really bad mpg after tuning but not sure what map they have as there are several. I have over a bar of boost and drive fairly hard where possible and i return high 20's average and low 30's on a run.
Most people will have problems turning up the boost on an old or high mileage car if they dont sort out any problems first. I suggest you make up your own mind where to get if from. This forum can be very bitchy about ecu/remaps, i would either get a RICA or MTE tune myself.
We hear alot of bitching about a particular garage in Bromsgrove, i am not linked in any way to this garage but i have had a good experience and got an excellant deal on my HLM Rica. Some people think that their t5's are Ferrari's, mess about with everthing and thrash it, and then wonder why it goes wrong. There are limits with these old cars. With an old engine and its components there will be reliability problems anyway.
You could spend many hundreds of pounds on an exhaust, bigger injectors, down pipe decat, cone filter, turbo mods etc. and i dont think you will be that much quicker than standard considering how much money has been spent, and often the worn 150k standard engine has been overlooked.
So what i am trying to say is dont listen to the comments about Bromsgrove as that is not very helpful. If your engine is well serviced and the turbo, vac/boost pipes, boost solenoid and ignition components are ok then you should be ok with sensible boost. Dont go for an after-market super chip!

I think there are (at least) two companies working out of Bromsgrove, HLM and ChippedUK. I dont know what company is being referred to by Justin.

David Pengelly Auto's in Nottingham do Rica remaps if I remember correctly and I have never heard a bad word said against them either for their work or their customer service

Chipped UK and HLM are near each other but different companies.

ChippedUK have a small 1 unit on a industrial estate and have a dyno and small office.
HLM are a few hundred yards away and a have a larger unit, possible 2 story high and 2 units wide?

Chipped UK in Bromsgrove i have heard stories about, tuning cars that after being checked were still stock!

As for the company nationally, no idea.

I think i'll pay a bit extra and go for a RICA then - I now realise there are two local stockists. Many thanks

Hi

If it is who I think it is, ChippedUK is owned by a chap called Jayson [forgotten his surname], whom I have dealt with MANY years ago. He offered me, through E30zone, a bolt in chip for me E30 325i. So off I went down to Bromsgrove, to his house, and had the said chip fitted. It did infact ££££ up my car, but that aside, he sent me a new standard ECU which solved all the problems. There is a little more to the story, but that is the gist.

I have learnt alot more about tuning and chipping since those days however.

Google is helpful though: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=chipped+UK&btnG=Search&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB :)

Chipped UK is Jason, we have started to do most of his P2 volvo tuning for him :)

The Chipped UK dealer will be BDM'ing the car and using alternative software.

Chipped has moved accross town from us to new premises and mainly specialises in BMW VAG etc, Dave Pengelli does not supply rica anymore but uses Diagnos probably tuned with Oscarli software which is excellent software.

DPA or VT for me everytime, both have offered great products and service. I had an autologic map on my P2 and it has trasformed the car in terms of performance and drivabilty. Im in Notts and quite happy for you to see how mine goes!
