just a random thought, my headlamp wipers are removed, but the piping for the water is still there and functioning. If i was to fit some nozzles on the end and point them at the intercooler would it make any noticeable affects, or just corrode it and make lots of steam? lol.

You would get a wet intercooler and it would get covered in anti-freeze window wash miz and corrode the living daylights out of the thing I would think.
The aquamist and alike systems are designed to atomise the water I believe so the contact with droplets is minimal.

thats a good enough explanation, the water is atomised and starts flowing according to boost pressure into the intercooler pipework via a specialised water pump, the smallest differential in jet sizes can feck up ( not dangrerously) the cars performance and it needs to be mapped for it ...so droplets or jets are a no no...

Like it. That will work on a hot summers day. Some of the early Impreza WRX's had a similar system fitted at factory. I'm sure the gains are minimal and will only be a benefit for a small 'window'. It will not need any remapping as you are only lowering the intake temp. by spraying water on the outside of the intercooler. Corrosion will be negligable as the Intercooler is already exposed to rain and road grit (salt) .
Go for it try it. I would have thought a wide fine spray would be best. I wonder how quickly you will drain the washer bottle.

So long as you are talking about external "spray it at the i/c" not internal "spray it into the i/c hoses" with your headlamp washers... go ahead... can't imagine there will be much bad happening.

yes obviously externaly, not gona throw water like that into my boost system! lol, but yea i will give it a try n let you guys know, think it could be advantages under repeated thrashings.

anyone know of a particular car that has a nicely seperated/fine/wide spraying nozzles? coz the 850 ones are pants, just 2 streams of water.

sorry to hijack the thread but as we on the subject of headlight wipers.
my drivers side headlight wiper always ends up pointing strait up when finnished. i keep forcing it back down but when i use it again it rest strai up again. how can i get it to rest where it should after use?

common fault, mate that lives near me who also has an 850 had the exact same problem, replaced something or other 3 times and each time they eventualy went back to doing the same thing. Mine used to occasionally go slightly out of sync, but i think the car looks miles better without them. when i next see him i'll ask what he replaced.

Dont think it will make a huge difference to be honest, the amount of water needed to affect real cooling would be considerable, a quick jet of water will achieve very little.

The other thing is that as the car moves forward so the air pressure onthe IC increases as your jet will be in front of the ic the pressure will increase on that as well. Sooooo.... you set it up so that it sprays a nice fine jet onto the entire intercooler when stationary looks great, now do it at 70 mph and the water will get "blown" onto a very small area directly behind the jet. The pressure required for it to spray the water across the surface of the ic at speed would be huge, probably in the region of a decent pressure washer, which a) your washer pump cant produce and b) even if it did it would empty the bottle in a blink of an eye.

To get decent cooling you would need to spray something very cold across the intercooler, such as liquid CO2 or even better liquid nitrogen, both of these systems are available commercially but are expensive. I also have never seen any proof that they have an effective cooling of the charge tempertures.

Its something i intend to have a play with next year, hamish is going to put a hybrid turbo and a sport exhaust on my car as well as fit some really nice spa gauges one of which will be an intercooler in and intercooler out temp gauge....... ( he doesnt know this yet so shhhhhh dont tell him !!!!!) Then i intend to play around with charge cooling to see if you get any real effect by chucking water / co2 or liquid nitrogen on the external ic surface.

yeah i totaly get what your saying wegal, it would really only be usefull when stationary, but i think for example a day at Santa pod, constant runs with queing in between under bonnet temps are going to get very high and im convinced a 10 second squirt b4 each run would lower the ic's temp, also its basically going to be a free mod so have nothing to lose.
i like the idea of an internal charge temp sensor tho, let me know how you and hamish get on, what sort of hybrid are you going for by the way?

if you want to cool the charge temps seriously, grab a CO2 fire extinguisher mount it upside down when you activate it (solenoid or cable pull), get some braided line and route it to the intercooler through some fuelling type jets to "spray" it onto the intercooler, will drop temps very quickly. Its part of the system i am going to put onto my metro turbo mini project.

I have this system on standard on my scoob. It has a load of nozzels from what i can see and just sprays it down onto the intercooler. Think it might not get affected so much by wind etc due to top moint intercooler (stupid design!). Tbh i dont really notice a difference, there may be a minimal one there but not noticed it yet. Will have a play when i get the car back and let you know if its worth it!!!

hi all was reading your thread and it got me thinking , so been to scrap yard got myself a small washer bottle and two jets , just need a switch now , iv tryed it by ust puting it straight to the battery , got its spraying top to middle of ic , just got back from a good drive to get it hot , i put my foot down and it picked up ok ish so pulled over to get it hot again fixed the wires to battery then put foot down and boy aswell as feeling it boost up you can hear it spalling up aswell , so yes i think it makes a differecne

yh i now have some ford jets plumbed in, not on a separate circuit tho, 90% of my driving is around town and it has definitely stopped that sluggishness you get after sitting in traffic for a while, very happy with it. total cost £5, lol.

Sounds a waste of time to me im afraid.....Unless you are considering this as a cooling mod while waiting at a drag start i cant see it being of use.....
Now introducing a air con blower pipe into the inlet?...that would be interesting...
Best off looking for a truck I/C to replace the stock as seen on various 7 series.....
