Am losing the 850 t5 love

Hi. I have had my 850 T5R for two and a half years now and all I seem to be doing is spending money on it. Its just that when I have it fixed its not long before somthing else brakes.
Is it just bad look or do I have a bad one.

I have been looking at the price of 7 series V8 bmw's on autotrader and there are some cheap motors about at the moment.:sinner:

I need someone to tell me to stop this and keep loving my 850. :ashamed:

still after 10-15 years these are(850's)are great to drive,there aren't that

many others wich drive the same after all these years.:rally_dri

I would rather have a volvo over a BMW any day. BMW's seem so boring and plain. Volvo is unique and always puts a smile on my face. The odl wolf in sheeps clothing phrase springs to mind.

Any car of this age is going to have problems, it can't be helped. stick with it it's worth it.

i no where your coming from mate when i got mine i had the worst luck in the world with at and spent soooo much money getting it sorted. and there was many many times i thought right iv had enuf. but now i couldnt be happyer with the old girl. in every relationship you get bad patches. and you are just going through a bad patch with the old girl mate. she will forgive you for what ever you have done soon enough LOL

as said, all cars need maintaining, i wouldn't give up on it yet.

i'm actually the opposite. on my first drive home in it my cousin who had bought my old car was following me. i couldn't stop looking in the mirror at my old car!
didn't know it at the time but the car was only running 5 psi, at one point i thought, lets see what she can do so at 80, i put my foot down.....................gave up at 110, took bloody ages!!:biggrin:

now after very nearly 2 years and with a lot of help from friends, i'm very very happy with the car.

nothing wrong with a V8 bmw though:mischievo

Ive been thinking about this and I rekon I would get these problems with any car over time. If I did buy a 7 series beama god knows wot might go wrong atleast I know were i'm at with my 850.

Hi Mark,
You have to consider what you have paid out for..Keeping a 10 year old car on the road is going to cast more that a brand new one, however you have had minimal outlay for a cracking (potentially ) car...
The T5-R is far more sort after than a T5....
What problems have you had?...
I have just P/X a 320 turbo diesel beemer and boy did that baby shift....

Over the last 12 months ive had a recon engine I bought another car with broken auto box. It was a pain getting the m.o.t. needed lambda sensor, rear calipers, frt brake hoses some rear axle bushes and a list of advisors. New air flow meter, abs lights were on sorted now. The heater rad went pop in the sumer but I just bypassed it but had to get that sorted last week I have heat again. The exhaust manifold gaskets are blowing now I can smell fumes when I am stationary its all getting me down abit you know...
Thats all I can remember at the moment anyway.

Mmm, i feel for you, seems all the "issues" have come together....
Fumes may well be the exhaust gasket tho in the absence of this i would suggest PCV....
I would consider the half full option that is, you have dealt with a lot of issues and these are manageable, at the end of the day you have a good car....
Do you do your own work?...
The exhaust gaskets are not a tricky job and would cost about £150 at a inde i would expect..(try doing a 7 series ET!!)....
I appreciate the costs keep rising but consider the age of the car?....It needs work doing, however at the end of the day you have a T5-R, not a Ford.....
I am currenty having starting issues with my T5 necessitating a jumper being applied to one of the sensors, this i consider a challenge rather than an impedance.....
There are continuing problems with maintaining cars of the age of ours, to suggest you enjoy it is clearly cherlish, however you have a T5-R......!!

I had one of those wynns combustion chamber cleaner done on mine by a wynns rep to demmo it for us at work. Thats when we sore the leak because of the white fumes coming from the exhaust manifold. I cant do it myself I dont have the tools or anywere to do it. Thanks anyway mate.

Why dont you use the contacts on the forum to help you...For instance why not PM Tim Williams and see if he will do it for you, he will also be able to advise you of any other issues to look out for....., sure he is at the bottom of the M6, but you know you will have a good job done and some comical entertainment to-boot...Plus you can have a good blast down the new stretch of toll road.....
Failing that someone must know a good Inde closer to you...
As my old Gran used to say...there is no such word as cant...!! Go for it....
