No, I'm first...if I can get him to go!

Its a '73 Trans am Bullnose Firebird with a 455CI V8 ....grrrrr!! Don't know the performance figures, but a quick trawl on the net suggests it would "only" be giving 250 BHP and 1/4 mile of 13.5 secs...poor for such a big engine, fast for such an old car!!

Anyway, not an expert so we'll see!

Is it any lighter than a Volvo?
225bhp = 15.7/qtr (or 15.2 if your me.... :) )
At a rought guess I'd put the qtr at nearer 15.5secs if not higher....
Maybe we could start a sweep stake of times....

When I arrived @ Avon my car wasn't down to run but J took her down in the afternoon so I would think that you will be ok to make your mind up during the day!!

They do check your cars before they run to make sure they are roadworthy etc which i think is a good thing!

Thursday 7th July 2005, 17:40
advice redbrick-
1) if you have the slightest suspicion your car has a problem - dont race!!!!!
embarassing and expensive if you break it
2) ignore the green light and go when you're ready reaction time does not affect 1/4 mile time. the clock starts when you move.
3) check all levels, tyre pressures and torque wheel nuts.
4)polish your car
5) have fun !!!!!!!!!

see you there hopefully
madness
ps look at rwyb.com it tells you what to do what not to do and what all the lights mean

My wife was going to see REM in London on the 9th, then my turn to go to Avon on the 16th.............Because of today's tragic events the REM gig has been postponed to the 16th............so I can no longer come, or even if I do come then will have daughter in tow so won't be able to run.......But still let us all spare a thought for all of those affected much more seriously than this......

Have a great time and hopefully there will be another RWYB very soon.

Gutted I can't go now, bloody REM. Was looking forward to trying to get below 15 sec. Mind you not sure how safe it would have been with knackered CV joints and hub bearings so may be a blessing in disguise.

Here's to the next time, and enjoy yourselves.

ps If the runners want to post or e-mail me their times - swordy21 "at" hotmail.com , best/worst etc, ie reaction, 60ft, 330 ft, to 1/4mi then I'll plug em into my spreadsheet and host it for all to compare. May be interesting to see things like Auto vs Manual. 15G vs 16T, RICA vs Std, 850, vs V vs S vs C and the like. May solve some arguments.

Cheers

Anyone travelling M4/A419 northbound be wary of the Royal Intl Air Tattoo which can create hours of queues in the vacinity of Swindon/Cirencester - not fun in a T5 with broken aircon!

I can hear them training overhead now....

I left early to catch up with work and stuff from this week, plus my car is not running right with the boost flying all over the place and the best run from her was a 15.2. Its going into VT for diagnostics on Monday however i suspect the turbo :(

The few that made it seemed to have fun, Madness was chasing his PB and trying to break the 13 barrier, however best before i left was a 14.1 @ 102mph :)

I'll let the others fill you in when they get back.
