Saturday 15th November 2008, 03:31
No need for apologies Nick ;)

Like pete says the more the merrier buddy :D

Ive spent A LOT OF TIME, lol , sorting this RR day out and i dont want it wasted because people say they will go and then dont turn up, its happened loads of times unfortunatelly.

I know people cant tell whats happening from day to day but if people are serious about it then they should sort out a deposit and try to make sure they will be there.

Awesome will not let us have the RR at all if there is less than 15 cars to run on it :(

Just one of those things.

Hope to see you there buddy

Will be a good day if theres a few ( 15+ ) cars there :D

All the best matey

Think I'd like to bring my 480 Turbo. Cheque will be in the post tomorrow.
Looking at the figures, Awesome are asking for £525 to run the day for 15 cars @ £35. If you guarantee that amount to them & only get 12 takers, that's £43.75 each, which is still a great price. What do you think?

Cheers, Chris.

t5 pete
Sunday 16th November 2008, 17:47
hi chris i think cameron has asked awesome if we didnt make 15 cars would they let 10 run they said that it had to be 15 cars or no rr bit s**t really buy i geuss we could try again send cameron an e-mail im sure he will be able to tell you better

Just thought, is it a FWD RR or an AWD RR, cos the Scoobys will need the AWD ;)

Right guys

After much Pleading, begging, Pleading oh and a bit more begging :bow_kneel:

Ive managed to get the number dropped from 15 to 12 and we have an extension of 2 weeks until the 15th Of December to confirm. We MUST have 12 cars running.

The guy that does the Rolling Road Days on a Saturday goes in especially for that reason.

If we dont have 12 cars with deposits paid by this time i have to phone them and cancel :(

Come on Guys pull together and get the numbers up, theres a post on the VOC as well and Liddo is asking his Scooby mates so hopefully we'll be ok.

Ive spent a lot of time and a lot of phone calls to try and sort this day out. It would be dissapointing to have to cancel so close.

Cheers

why not try T5D5?

we, as you may know had a RR meet last saturday which had 15 cars within 24 hours of the original post going up. that was in the south, i'm sure there must be a few northerners who thought it was too far for them where this may be more suitable.

Tingymagic made a good point...........

Qoute: a word of warning reguarding autos at the last dyno day they refused to run auto turbos as when they are dynoing a turbo they have to work out what the torque converter is doing and to do this they have to hold the throttle wide open for 15-20 secs which can cause the turbo to become VERY hot and in some cases give up compleatly which is what happened the last time this operator ran a scubby legacy, the turbo let go i would recomend speaking to the dyno operator before the day to find out if they will defo run an auto turbo to avoid dissapointment and then work out if u wanna risk ur turbo

Good point Tingy

Phoned Awesome today AGAIN

They have no problems with running turbo autos

They run it on Wheel bhp and not Clutch bhp

So no worries there, they've done loads.

Cheers for the heads up though

Hey should we have a sweep stake on the day ? One with the highest WHP wins ? Or one with the most Torque wins ?

Say £1 to enter winner takes all ?

Could add an additional bit of fun to the proceedings.

Rolling roads are generally done in 1 gear, some places use 4th others use 3rd.

The car is driven hard up to a point YOU decide, so if you tell him to redline it the controller who drives your car will take it to the redline then back off straight away.

If you having more than 1 run they will low the power to drop then nail it again, up to the point you asked, and then allow the power to drop then nail it one more time, making your 3 runs.

At the end of the day it's YOUR car so you tell them what they can and can't do with it. If the power band comes in between 3500-5000rpm (ball park figure) then there is no point nailing the car to 6500rpm as you wont get a higher reading.

mauler
Thursday 11th December 2008, 20:03
Been a couple of times before, usually the person doing the runs will get a feel for the car and check fuelling ect, sounds a bit scary when cars are revving up but i have had no problems in the past, but then its your car and your desision as to how far to push it or how brave you are feeling???. At the end of the day they wont run a car that appears to have any issues. Also i probably give mine more abuse than the RR would, went to Marham in October and floored it all the way down the long straight, no apparent problems.

Cali-T5
Thursday 11th December 2008, 23:49
I told them to red line mine, purely cos i didnt know where to power band was and also to see if dropped of anywhere.

However the dont bounce it off the limiter, they rev upto the red line then off again. If someone can tell you where the power band ends on these cars i'd take it about 500rpm more.

They SHOULD check your tyre pressure, oil and get the car up to temp before they run it.

Had to pull out I'm afraid! the ''Credit Crunch'' is taking it's toll on the industry I work in (either that or I'm a poor salesman:nutkick:) I may not even have the D5 by then.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you can keep the D5 but I guess that's the least of worries. Funnily enough I went "the other way" when I lost my job at the end of 2006, losing the BMW company skip but gained the D5.

Ok then ladies, :rotfl:

18 - 20 cars MAX

So theres only 2 spaces left for you lucky people.

As for Mr loadsamiles that is more concerned with his belly
OK,

You've persuaded me.

What are we doing for lunch?

:D , theres a Sandwich shop a 2 minute walk round the corner thats open most of the day that will cater for most tastes, i'll be first one there i think for a full english :B_thumb:

Cheers guys, looking forward to it more and more, the last meet i went to was slightly dissapointing, 7 cars iirc, so im well chuffed ive managed to round up such a bunch.

So as it stands 18 cars on the RR with 2 places left and a few spectators, excellent guys thanks for all the support and interest.

By the way if we reach the 20 mark and more peeps want to run on the RR i could always start a reserve list just in case somebody cant make it. The reserve list would be on a first come first served basis and the full £35 fee would be payable on the day.

Those that have paid deposits and dont show on the day, your deposits will NOT be returned unless contact is made before the day. this i think is only fair to all those involved.

Same comment here.:flying:

You could easily have given up when it looked like it wasn't going to be popular.

As it is now you know you have a meet on your hands with at least 20 people guaranteed attending. Probably one of the biggest VPCUK initiated meets for a while. Not a bad achievement at all.

If all goes well I should be running WI for this one too (and have a new wastegate actuator) So I should be back on track.
The last dyno run was a fantastic diagnostic tool. I had not noticed the actuator loosing it's pre-load, but the dyno figures having fallen behind other "known" cars proved very useful.

As for those wondering about the "stress" of running a car on the dyno. Mine has been on about 8 or 10 times now, some of those times with a very very lean map.
A day of track use or a run on the drag strip is more demanding. As long as the operator is competent and keeps an eye on the AFR and temp then all should be OK.
Obviously if the car is knackered it's at risk....

chriskay
Sunday 28th December 2008, 14:23
As I no longer have a T5, I'll be bringing some spares to the RR day which I accumulated over time. From memory, these are:
Auto box ECU
ABS ECU (early)
driver's window motor
sunroof motor
N/s door mirror (electric, heated)
NON turbo complete instrument panel.
windscreen wiper mechanism, complete with motor.
All of these parts were reputedly working when I got them, but I offer no guarantees.
I won't want much for them.

Cheers, Chris.

Just as an aside for those who are planning to sit on the rollers- ensure your tyres are properly pumped up. I would use the fully loaded setting- so 35psi+. You can always let them down if you have big power, but harder to pump em up!

More importantly, the cooling system is topped up, not leaking and the fan is operational. Even though it's one quickish run, the engine is under immense pressure at WOT (and 100mph+ wheelspeed) with certainly not 100mph of airflow to keep temps down- especially charge temp with turbo's.

Also check your throttle cable is tight enough to allow a wide open plate.

I've been to afew dyno days and its amazing what a lack of simple maintanance can have on the figures, or worse- going home on an AA truck!

The dyno operator will monitor AFR and abort the run if it is running dangerously lean / too much boost, so if you are running abit lean, be careful!

Just 2p... Tim.

Yip me too !

And a damn good clean out, wouldnt want to show myself up by rolling round the corner in a manky car thats just not right!

Good advice also on the throttle cable bit, i went to see my car when it was for sale, gave it one rev and then there was no throttle response. The cable was that loose that it had flicked itself off

I used it as a bargaining tool, the guy selling it, a supposed Volvo Specialist didnt even know how to tighten the cable back up so ended up doing it myself :uglyhamme

Cheers guys see you all saturday :B_thumb:

I'll be bringing some spares from when I had an 850
Dash panel complete, for a non-turbo
Passengers electric door mirror
Driver's door window motor
Sun roof motor
All these are from an early 850. (so my local parts guy says. He also priced the computer section of the dash; over £200!).
Anyone who wants to pay for my dyno run can have them all.

Cheers, Chris.

As posted on t5d5

Hi guys and gal

Seems a pretty hot contested topic this who goes first thingy.

I think it should be first come first serve but the operator may do it differently,

It may be that the RR needs different settings for different drivetrains i.e. FWD or AWD,

I beilive theres even a rear wheel drive nissan 300zx going with a reputed 450odd bhp. ( was added when we were struggling )

I'll phone Awesome tomorrow and give you all a definate answer.

From what ive seen the operator gives a little Q & A session before hand, so might be worth getting there early.

Looks like there will be a few cars there, near on 30, and im sure it'll be a great day, as long as the rain holds off

Thanks

Ok people

Ive phoned Awesome today AGAIN, must have made about 50 calls

The operator of the RR has stated that he would like all the cars with the same drivetrain to go together.

So all FWD together, all AWD together, and i think theres one RWD Nissan Oh and are 960 RWD also ?

Oh and models together as well i.e. 850's - V70's - C70's

So this would determine the running order somewhat.

Soooooo i could do with people getting there as early as possible really.

People that arrive later on will either have to be fitted in somewhere or at the end depending on whats happening on the Rollers at the time.

Cheers guys

My beloved C70 is now still in the garage having the power steering pump changed :( just had to have new rear calipers too and now it looks like one of (if not all) are going :(

Steering rack
CV Joint
Driveshaft

Looks like I will be a no show (unless I bring the Skoda Diesel lol or potentially my T4, but I would have to insure that). Still might pop by and may still have the 70 yet :)
