Hi Chaps n Chapess's

Im going to do my Thermostat over the weekend, as the temp gauge keeps dropping low, then back up again to normal, then low again.

It looks like its only two torx screws and out she comes, is this correct???

Ive ordered a 92c stat and rubber seal for PFV for my 1999 C70 T5 (hope thats correct too)

Are there any how to's, or is it as easy as just the 2 screws??

the torx screw are a PITA, and round easily, and are welded in due to the heat
be prepared for that
and the whole housing can snap off if pressure applied.

sometimes better having a spare from a scrappy

other than that straight forward

Took me 5mins to change mine whilst I was in the chat room one night - no-one even noticed I had gone LOL

LOL, i guess your screws where loose then ;)

Spray generously with WD40, leave to soak, then put a 1/2 inch torque socket on an extension bar, as you can push against it (ooh matron), which minimises the risk of rounding the screws!

the important bit is getting straight on one of the bolts! if you are not straight it can cause problems.....

at worst drill the head of the bolt off! that way you wont crack the housing as mentioned earlier in the thread ;)

Last question, is it better to have a "warm" engine?? Just thinking it may help getting the bolts out ?????

I want to do mine but I'm scared to death of breaking something, I gave it an experimental try the other day but it was damn tight.

UPDATE:

All done in 5 mins tops, a total peice of p**s. Both screws/bolts undone quite easily after soaking them in WD (no, not Wobbley Dave). Old knackered thermo out, and new PFV one in, and job done. Nice steady 3 oclock gauge and no leaks :D

BTW, mines the ME7 engine, so I didnt have to remove any fuel lines or anything. And I used a small, cheap torx set from ASDA :D
