Adam @ Readview has found out what the horrid noise from the rear of my car is, on hard cornering the body roll is allowing the rear tyres to rub on an inner arch fixing bolt, which in turn is cutting into the tyre walls.

I have the 17" Tethys and my car doesnt like them, A different offset from the standard 850 wheels, they come of an S60 they rub on full lock and on hard cornering!

Not Good !

Has anyone else fitted spacers and have you found any negatives?

A cheap fix i know but Adam says it puts extra strain on the wheel bearing!

Do i just corner slowly or fit spacers? or is there another fix?

Im not changing the wheels so that ones out already!

Anybody?

Cheers

Lee

If the outer tyre is rubbing on the out arch (Ie, bodywork side) then spacers would make it worse?

Or is it rubbing towards chassis side??

i run spacers.... the offset on your wheels is the same as mine! which is the problem....

5mm spacers all round should do the trick :D

you shouldnt put any more stress on the bearings as you are more or less putting the wheels to were they should be!

i would imagine your tyres are actually rubbing on the bolts that hold the arch linings in?

it may be worth getting some longer bolts aswell if you can find them!

just the offset of the wheel mate.

if you were to add spacers at the rear, would it not be worth considering the same size spacer at the front?

i've no idea with regards to suspension but i know enough to know that i don't know enough:drunk:

but my point is, putting spacers on the rear will widen the track and hence grip? so would that not promote understeer?

so put spacers of the same size at the front to counter that?

Maybe a good idea that!

I'll look into it.

No point in spending money if its not needed.

Widening the track for more grip, hmm....... unsure on that one!

Another thing to look into.

Cheers for the help guys.

Depending on how bad it is rubbing you could try a 2mm or 3mm spacer, or ideally get the wheels machined down on the seating face,

maybe tyre choice as its the tyres rubbing.... the 225s i bought recently are causing me loads of problems as the sidewalls have more rim protection on them & are actually wider than the 235s that came off the wheels as standard!

Pretty bad, its started rubbing through the " writing " on the wall of the tyre, i think 5mm just to be on the safe side.

If i put spacers on the front do i need the tracking doing again?
