I have a receipt for when my car had its timing belt done @ 97000 miles about beilive it or not 4 years ago, its only on 117600 now, but that was £35 for the belt and £190 for the labour.

I know its a few years old but may give you a rough idea.

Best advice matey is too shop about, get the big yellow book out, maybe try bluffing someone to see if they come back with a lower price, even a tenner off helps.

Lee

Just a tad dear in my opinion.Got mine done for far less with a genuine water pump and a contitech belt kit (made by continental i got it from BRAYDONS in London). Is PENCOED to far for you to go? It's junction 35 of the M4. It's my nephews place pm me if you want contact details etc.Would guess at getting a £100 of that price but thats between you and him.I would guess they have quoted you on all genuine parts plus silly labour.

it sounds a lot to me, i am pretty sure i priced it up here (main dealer) for under £200 retail price.

its not that big of a job to be honest, around 1 hour book time iirc.

if you want, send me your reg and i will double check price of parts and labour to confirm this.

Daza just over the seven bridge Bridgend Volvo , bridgend industrial estate just of junc 35 M4 as mentioned already .(01656)769769 ask for Jason and tell him Mike Johnson gave you his number. T5 upto 1999 £110 + vat supplied and fitted , no tensioner required . 1999 on £145 + vat supplied and fitted with tensioner , the reason for the difference is upto 99 the tensioner is hydraulic . A 2 hour job max . This guy is not related at all but use to work on my own t5's when i was in the motor trade , he is a volvo trained fitter who did not want to relocate when the dealer he worked for moved so he started his own dealership and is doing very well indeed. He is not a cowboy, knows his stuff and i couldn't recommend him enough.....
p.s if you need any more info just shout
mike.....

Yip i know jason of bridgend volvo specialists very well, he is a very good customer of ours and I will also vouch for his work. I have known him for many years (and the rest of the staff there, from when they all worked for GMG Volvo Ewenny, and we deal with each other every day of the week).

He owns a very smart independent volvo dealership with a fancy showroom too, would put some dealers to shame. If you can travel that far then you wont go wrong.

Does sound a bit high, a cam belt kit from Gates or Goodyear would probably be around the 140 mark then labour at 1.5-2 hours as it's a pretty easy one. Depends whether they are going to time the cams which means removing the dizzy and cam sensor but I somehow doubt it !

a cam belt kit from Gates or Goodyear would probably be around the 140 mark

its less than that from the dealer.

full retail price for the parts for dazat5's car, for timing belt, tensioner pulley and the idler pulley was £132, (which works out at less than £100 including delivery getting them from me.)

your right about the labour though, about 1.8 hours including pulleys, so our labour would cost him £125 labour (£59.50 plus vat per hour, standard reduced rate for vehicles over 5 years old)

this means that i do believe the quote above to be high, when even paying retail prices for parts it would be cheaper at a main dealer...
