I have an 850r with the standard 17's on it- will 215/ 45s fit without rubbing/ bursting catastrophically at speed?

thanks in advance,
Nervy.

I'm running 225 35 18 on a lowered car with no problems so you should be ok. Hope this helps.

215-45-17 are the standard fit items anyway aren't they?

well, on mine at the mo are 205's, Id assumed they were standard.

forgive me, if Im doing this right, then then 205 is the footprint, and the 35/ 45 is the percentage of that footprint in tyre wall- in which case my tyres (the new ones) will be 96mm whereas eddys will be 78, meaning mine are taller, so may not fit? or am I way off?

205's were standard fit on the 850R's- I ended up on 215's.

Use this useful website to see what difference it will make running 215's:

neat site, thanks.

So, according to that- and you- I'll be okay with them?

From my notes I show that a 215 is the widest tire you can fit on there without issues. Naturally many have gone much wider but that is my .02. Here are my notes:

The 850 is limited to a 215 maximum section width due to restrictive plastic fender liners. 215-55-16”, 215-45-17” and 215-40-18” are popular upgrades.

so, Im ok? Cool. I only ask as there already appears to be some scuffing of the inner arch plastic with the 205s.

i,m getting a set of 215x45x17s when i get the alloys refurbed,
ive looked at a tyre size calculator and they are 2% bigger than standard, thats ok,
also it should make the ride nicer with a bit more rubber, and the gearing slightly longer,
mines currently running 205x40x17, too hard and way under-geared, just wants to spin up,

do it.

Ok, I'll be blaming you though when i go down in a blaze of thick black smoke- I hope you know that.
