wasnt that bad though one of the calipers is sticking on so the reading was 49% whatever that means the only good thing is they said they would do it for £30 tomorrow and ill have the mot this is the first time its failed an mot apparently which is not bad for a m reg old girl

no not at all mind you its the first time ive been out in it for a week but it must have been like it for a while unless its the misseses hard braking very odd tho just glad it aint gonna be silly money to sort it out

49% relates to the how different the braking force is on the the steered road wheels. You are allowed a difference between the braking effect on each side of upto 25%, more than that is a fail. Basically, one brake is applying more force than the other, which means the car isn't going to brake in a straight line.

Might not be the caliper sticking, they certainly wouldn't be able to diagnose it that accurately just on an MOT test and certainly wouldn't quote to repair it (If it's actually sticking it needs replacing) my guess is that the pads have seized into the caliper carriers which would only need a strip down, clean up and re-lube to cure which wouldn't be very expensive.
