I received some of the bits I need to do to complete my stage 0/service today:

5 x Volvo OEM spark plugs
Bosch distributor cap
Bosch rotor arm
Bougicord (OEM) HT ignition wires
Mann airfilter (i'll stick this on whilst I clean the K&N panel filter)

I've also got a complete set of engine mounts waiting to be fitted - and I've uprated the lower tie bar (small bush) with a Powerflex item as i think this is particularly prone to wear - I'm also going to get the iPD polly bush replacement for the bigger tie bar bush as well.

I'm also waiting on delivery of my blue Samco turbo hose kit (can take up to 30 days?) though! lol! as well as some 4mm blue Samco vacuum line. I'm also getting the iPD HD TCV (when stock arrives) as i think my BCS could be shot and am also going to get the QBM CBV replacement diaphragm. I also need to get a new fuel filter and will get my injectors cleaned by Jim.

Overall it's going to be a busy fee weeks for me/the car! lol!.. :)

LOL! Not really.. I'm trying to be more economic with this car as I've spent thousands on cars in the past and you never get it back.. Although there is a few bits and pieces I want doing on this car.

After this I'll get the suspension sorted out then look at some power upgrades! LOL!

just checked back in the IPD site and they have both the IPD HD TCV and IPD tie bar poly bush mount (large) in stock so I've ordered them.. does anyone have any experience of either of these parts?

Pang; if you want any small diameter blue silicon hose (4mm I think - suitable for actuator hosing etc) then give me a yell, I've got a couple of metres left over from my Saab days.

The original setup is enclosed so stopping heat getting in. Surely having an open setup would suck in all the heat from the turbo etc. The only benefit would be extra noise, but at the expense of losing power:rolleyes:

seems to be pretty enclosed to me:

once the bonnet is shut how's the hot air going to get in? the stock inlet also blows straight onto the cone filter.. can't see it being an issue to be honest.. there is a video on the site showing before and after runs and there is negligible difference (in terms of intake temps) between the very good stock set up and this one.. :)

no lid anymore, so the under bonnet heat get sucked into the cone filter. I had the k&n 57i setup on my 850 and i noticed a very small lose in power, but the noise was better lol. Took it off and used a k&n panel filter instead.

my IPD goodies arrived today (the IPD HD TCV and the large tie bar bush).. a couple of observations so far:

* the turbo control valve seems to be very good quality.. it's also pretty heavy! (compared to the stock item) lol!.. it's very solidly built and comes with instructions and all the mounting kit gubbins

* the large tie bar bush is not like the Powerflex items.. the compound that it's made from is a lot harder - it's very solid almost nylon like - which is good as it means you probably won't ever need to buy another one..

all in all i'm pretty happy with the items and the delivery as it was a bit quicker than what i was expecting due to the TCV being on back order. :)

I'll be fitting all the parts and servicing the car before I install the new control valve so I don't skew any results that I see.. i'll have a chance to do proper back to back comparisons then :)

Surely trying just the valve on the car now would give a good comparison on how it holds boost as the leads rotor arm and cap will more than likely give you different results aswell. What size are the nipples/connectors, outside diameter on the Valve Pangster?

i'm having issues with my boost at the minute which is one of the reasons why I'm completing a stage 0 and uprating some of the parts whilst i'm at it.. i'll then compare the stock BCS with the IPD item as they'll both be working on the best possible base.. not as it is at present as it's due a service and my boost is a little low compared to what it should be.. i'm basically trying to rule out any issues before doing the comparison..

the external diameters start off at 8 mm at the base and taper down to 6 mm at the tip

Taken from the ipd website: "Some 1998 models had a Secondary Air System (SAS) used to reduce emissions. The SAS system normally draws it's air supply from the factory air filter box."

This page: http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-S70V70-1998-2000/Performance/Short-Ram-Intake/p-128-372-3559/

I'm not sure, but I don't think UK cars ever had this system. Mine has the attachment pipe on the airbox, but it's end is blanked off.

Had the sr5t on me saffy before i sold her(markyv40's now) all I can say is it's absolutely AWESOME!! The seal around the top pretty much encloses the filter completely with the bonnet closed and with the fresh air feed you get absoluteley no heat soak issues, that seal is the main difference from other similar set ups. Highly recommended.

that was the point i was trying to make to Mike before.. it's completely different from just sticking a K&N cone on which is not shielded and exposed to the engine bay heat.. i've only heard good things about the short ram kit... :)

just an update - my mikalor (t-bolt) clamps for the Samco turbo hoses arrived today... well at least most of them!!.. the rest will be following shortly.. apparently..

my new Mitsubishi CBV refurb kit (diaphragm, spring and shim/spring seat) is also winging it's way from Taiwan - so should arrive shortly.. I just need to get a few other odds and sods and I'll be set.. can't wait! lol! :)

The Mitsubishi CBV refurb kit arrived today (well yesterday - but I was out! lol!) so I've just picked it up from the post office - it has to be the best packaged parcel I've ever had to unpack! lol!! - it was only posted on 17th October from Taiwan so doubt you could have got it quicker if it was stocked in the UK or cheaper for that matter..

http://www.paullynch.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/CBVrefurb.JPG

If anyone is looking for one - I got it from kinugawa_turbo on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120304409563&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3D R40%26_trksid%3Dm38%26_nkw%3D120304409563%26_fvi%3 D1

£20 plus P&P - which I managed to half as I set up a mini-group buy! lol! :) so all in it was £24.50 for the CBV kit plus delivery.

fitted the IPD poly bush in the lower tie rod just now - (it'll be getting fitted in Friday with all the other new bits! lol!).

I fitted the IPD bush into a brand new mount, so found it easier to drill 2 cuts (in the plastic surround) either side of the mount so it collapsed on itself and was easy to push out. The IPD mount then fitted in as per their instructions - so now I have a Powerflex/IPD combo mount! lol!

not sure mate.. it looks like you remove the window wipers, windscreen cowling and then remove 2 bolts that hold it to the bulkhead and the one that holds it to the cage/torque arm. Then reversal for refitting.. seems pretty straight forward.

My cars in for a full service on Friday so I'm just going to let my mechanic fit all the new shiny bits. I've got a lot on at the minute and don't really have a lot of spare time. On top of that I'm picking the outlaws up from the airport tomorrow who will be staying with us for a couple of weeks... the joys! :)

Cool, Should make the car sound very agressive with both poly mounts!

Russ has been working with Powerflex on an uprated firewall mount for the torque arm - so depending on how I get on with these new mounts (depending on noise levels and vibration) - I might get one of these new Poweflex firewall bushes as well - (I'll make sure I keep my old mount so I can just swap them over! lol!)

I'm not expecting a huge increase in noise or vibration to be honest.. but figured seeing as the bushes in the lower tie bar are extremely prone to wear that it would be worthwile upgrading them now. I can't see either the IPD or Powerflex bush wearing anytime soon! lol! :)

little update - picked my car up today and it feels absolutely fantastic (very solid). I don't feel the engine/gearbox lurching and the gear changes are silky - no clunkiness..

Pick up and general driving seems a lot better/smoother as well (although it always does after a full service! lol!). My mechanic also showed me the old fuel filter (I've never seen one this big before! lol!) and reckons it was the original one on the car (never been changed). Apparently it's not uncommon for these not to be changed (even although my car has a full service history! lol!).

A couple of things I still need to get sorted out - injectors cleaned and vacuum hoses changed over and I didn't fit the firewall mount as I figured I might as well just go straight for the Powerflex item! :) I also popped the standard paper air filter element in as my K&N is due for a clean (just ordered the 'recharge' kit for it).

Going to hopefully fit the IPD HD TCV tomorrow (if I get a chance) and will let you know how I get on.

Overall I'm pretty chuffed though! - the car's running the best its ever done!... *touches wood*! :)

still need to clean the K&N Panel filter - although I'll probably get round to that this weekend! :)
