Hi everyone.
I need help and so does my car...
My 2002/51 V70 T5 has developed a severe judder in the last two/three weeks. Originally I suspected the wheels/wheelnuts but they've been checked and rechecked. I've been to my local very friendly garage and they've done the wheel shake test part from the MOT and nothing.

Originally it started shaking the steering wheel from 45mph all the way through to 100mph but, since my friendly garage checked without any success in identifying the fault; it seems to come in more toward 60mph and isn't through the steering but the whole car.

The only thing the garage could say was it could be the driveshaft being unbalanced. I've just done an airport trip of some 20miles and the whole car shakes under acceleration from 40mph onward.

I've just lost my job, money is tight and I fear it could be 'spares and repair' in the loot paper.

I love the car, and I want to keep it. I can't afford to throw money at trying to diagnose the fault. Does any one have any experience or ideas..

Much appreciated
Andy

Any lumps on any of the tyres ? Look around on the inside edges for bulges and other anomalies - could be something as simple (and dangerous!) as that...

Hi
Yes I'll have a look. The garage didn't find anything wrong with them but I'll triple check. This juddering is worryingly severe. I fear the transmission..

Thanks

Try checking any wheel weights to see if any of them can slide on the rim

This kind of problem can come from ANY of the wheel/tyre combinations on your vehicle and could relate to balance and/or out of round tyres. If you're confident there's no wheel bearing play, you'll have to go through the motions with checks for all 4. A few years back I had a vibe coming through into the front of the cabin, which I assumed was from the front wheels - I spent ages investigating but the problem only disappeared when I replaced both rear tyres! Suppose it *could* be transmission related but I'd start with the simple checks first.

Hmm rear wheels... I'll swap front to back and try that. Still I suspect its something worst (I mean more expensive)
Thanks

I had this on my P1 V70 Classic, i done all the usual checks with no joy.
It turned out to be the Track Rod Ends that needed replacing.
It was fine afterwards.
Also check for " buckled " wheels

Hi.
Well I did a front back swap of the tyres and there is no change to the juddering.

To check the theory about possibly having a dodgy tyre I'm going to replace each tyre in turn for the brand new alloy spare. Then test drive, until all tyres have been 'replaced' that will definitely rule out tyres and wheels...
