Hi guys, just contemplating getting a C70. I know pretty much what I want, T5, low miles top spec etc so off I went looking for a GT model. However I have stumbled across a couple of GS models which seem to have the same spec as the GT.

Is this a model in its own right or simply a typo on the V5 etc?

Cheers!

Its a model in its own right, there is a GS and a GT, im not sure on both specs though.

The GT should have Electric Seats, Dolby Pro Logic sound system with Center Speaker, and "sometimes" they had a sunroof. Mine is a GT spec, but it doesnt have the sunroof. There maybe more options, but Im not 100%.

Electric seats are a pain if you have to use them a lot to get passengers in the rear.........ie....KIDS!

I know mate, i think it depends on who ordered the car, how much they had to spend, what the weather was like on that day....bla bla bla ;)

IE, We dont think there's a set spec, so just go for the best you can find ;)

yeah i have to agree, dont think the gt is a SET spec, maybe you just get more factory options?

Thats crazy isnt it! I always thought that ALL the T5's are 16's. I think mine is a 16, and its a GT :cuckoo: I've gone with Swift.com, and Im only paying £280 fully comp (but then, I am an old git ;) )

280 fully comp!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im paying 2200 third party fire and theft!!!!!!!!!!! but then again im only 18!!!!!

Ouch!! I thought £520 fully comp was a lot (am 25). There doesn't seem to be a clear definition any where on what specs you get with the GT other than its the top spec apparently and that the GS is a 'pack' not sure what it adds though! Anyhoo, am pursuing a '00 T5 GS (not a GT) at the moment. Its got most things on it like the dolby system, electric seats, sunroof etc etc but i do notice it has the rubbish plastic gear knob! maybe thats what the GT adds?!! I appears also to have the lowered dynamic suspension and bbs alloys so in all looks pretty neet. Chap is asking £3495 - any thoughts on the price?

Ps.. got my current V70 T5 insurance with sainsburys... £100 cheaper than anywhere else at £486.. plus plenty of nectar points for the wife!

when I went for insurance,I was asked what size engine.TOld them 2.3 t5 turbo and that was enough.SPec level wasn't mentioned.

When I was selling my last motor/ buying the new one I took out a weeks subscription for the Parkers premium pricing service. Costs £5.99 and gives pretty good data on vehicle values dependant on age, condition, mileage and to some degree, spec for trade, private sale etc. I found it particularly useful due to the high mileage I was dealing with on the sale side. Might be useful?

I think the plastic gearknob was introduced with the newer engine (ME7) from a 1999 onwards.

£3495 would be an OK price only if the mileage was low and it was a good colour and was in mintish condition etc etc (IMO of course)

On average, it looks as though £2500-£3k is the max for these types of motors, some going as cheap as 1800 for a decent 98 plate.

Any details on the one your after?? adverts etc etc

A small selection ;)

This one MAYBE a bargain

The second, the guy doesn't even know what the power output is and says it's a 2.4, so i reckon it's not a t5, but the low pressure 2.4 turbo.

The first one looks very good value for money with the very low mileage.

Mine's an me7 registered December 1999 model with 75,000 on the clock. Imo these cars are excellent value for money. I sold my previous 1996 850 t-5r manual estate with 135,000 miles on it for more than i paid for my c70.

I personally would go for the GS model. The electric seats by all accounts are slow if you want to use the rear seats.

I'll try and post up a link later. But for the time being the car is as follows...

2000 (V) C70 T5 GS, 87K, FSH, 2 owners, part leather, heated seats, sunroof, 17" BBS split rims (the volvo one, not sure what they are called) Dolby system (not sure about dynaudio - that would be nice!), x6 and x3 CD Changers and is in dark grey metallic and looks like it has been well looked after. also has 12 months MOT.

Not sure if both seats are electric or not - I have ready several posts on the reliability of these but at the moment there is only the two of us... plan is to enjoy it while I can!!

According to my C70 dealers brochure dated April 1998, all C70 T5's except the GT are group 16, the GT is group 17.

Also in the brochure it defines that the GT Pack includes : -
Electronic Climate Control,
Cruise Control,
TRACS (Traction Control)
SC 901 Stereo,
4 X 100W Amp
Wood Dashboard and Tunnel Console,
Leather Faced Upholstery,
Heated Front Seats,
Information Centre (Fuel Averages etc)
Front Cupholders.

Options were: -
Leather Faced Upholstery,
Soft Leather Upholstery,
Leather/ Alcantara Upholstery,
Load Compensation Suspension,
Auto Transmission,
17" Graphite or Silver Canisto Wheels,
18" Triton Wheels,
Alloy Spare Wheel,
Passenger Airbag,
Road Traffic Information,
Electronic Climate Control,
Cruise Control,
Information Centre,
TRACS,
Tilt & Slide Electric Glass Sunroof,
Autodim Internal Rear View Mirror,
Heated Front Seats,
Wood Dashboard (Black, Red or Birch)
Wood/ Leather Steering Wheel (Black, Red or Birch)
Wood Gear Selector (Black or Red)
Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound,
4 X 100W Amps,
Rear CD (6 Disc) Autochanger,
Lowered Sports Chassis (T5 & 2.5T)
Sports Chassis (2.5T)
Front Cupholders,
First Aid Kit.

The leather gearknob is a costly option, it did not come as standard with the GT pack. I was quoted £115 +vat from my Volvo dealer.

It should state in the registration docs if it is a GT or GS.

Curiously my C70 has extra leather stitched on the doors that i have not as yet seen in any other C70, even other GT specs.

Also in the brochure it says that the rear suspension allows the rear wheels to turn fractionally when entering a corner.

I was quite lucky when I got mine - it was a very well specced GT and came with almost every optional extra! lol.. i did see some dogs though so the best advice i could give is to see a few and be patient as it's definately a buyers market at the minute.. :)

My GS has all of the above except TRACS, front cupholders (I assume it means the one's in the armrest) and the information centre. I also have a full leather interior, in two tone grey, that I have only ever seen in pics of one other Volvo.

So to put it another way, its a f**kin lottery ;)

The one your going for sounds nice, but be careful, your bound to see a better specced car JUST after you've bought that one. Id say the Dolby Surround is a MUST if you like your music, it's fab

Good luck anyway

;)

And hopefully welcome to the C70 club

yes that dolby button is so good makes songs that you thought sounded good sound even better and good bit of bass from it as well

I've got the dolby in the V70.... absolutely brilliant!! best system i've ever heard!

Will keep you posted on the car. It is always the case though, you always see another one just after getting it!

It seems there are a few C70 supporters out there... never knew they were so popular among the forums!

Ive had three, and every time Ive sold one, Ive regretted it.

Im keeping this one ;) They are SO under-rated as a Coupe.

Hope you get a nice one

I keep thinking about changing - not much point at the moment as I only get to see it once a fortnight. I've looked at porsche and astons. Still think my C70 is a great car. I also like the new C70 - shame the T5 is a bit gutless.

Hi, Dave,

I have driven both new C70 T5 & C70 D5 (g/tronic)

I'd take the D5, and map it everytime

we shall see. I am not keen on oil burners. The geartronic I drove was really aweful. I hated that gearbox.
