Got my car serviced on saturday. Stage 0, oil and filter, plugs, leads, cap and arm and fuel filter. She was running fine, holding boost very well and was looking more economical than usual on that afternoon but after a long drive (90 miles) i was just reversing onto a driveway and the engine light came on.

Checked the fault codes and its showing 2-3-2, which according to the haynes manual is long term mixture at idle too weak or too rich. What do i need to do to correct this? Can this be corrected manually? or is this something that has to be modified with the ecu mapping?

My car was remapped last october, i was told that it was running rich at the time and that the mixture was modded to compensate. I have never had this fault code come up though.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Ed

If they changed the air filter then the MAF would've been disturbed in someway. Check the plug is securely fastened to it.

Give the MAF a clean with some spray on carb cleaner.

And one more to add to the mix :-)

On my car at 100k miles it started running rich. I pulled that code and after trying a few things, replaced the Lambda sensor with a new genuine Bosch one. That fixed it.

If you have someone you can swap known good bits with that'll save wasting money on OK parts, otherwise you might want to take it to a Volvo specialist who can tell you more about the 2-3-2 and what the live data is showing.

I'd second the possibilty of a faulty lambda sensor. If you know a 'friendly' MOT station they may do you an emmissions test. The results at idle and at fast idle should will give you a Lambda and CO readings. If there are know air-leaks, exhaust leaks etc then the readings could point you towards a duff Lamda sensor.

Thanks for the comments, so it could be either the maf or possibly the lambda sensor. I did manage to clear the fault on the same day and when i started the car later on, the light did stay off, though that was only to swap cars around the drive. I will have chance to look again this sunday.

Cheers,

Ed

Just thinking if the fuel filter has been changed, maybe some crud has escaped up the pipe and gone up to the injectors. The filters in them are very tiny and can block up easily. At 100.000 miles, it’s ready for the injectors cleaning anyway. If you have done everything else, it may be worth thinking about.

Mine did that found it was a bosch o2 sensor and not genuine volvo one, something about the wires being spliced on the bosch one. Replace it with a genuine Volvo one and it should go away.....

I think the OEM ones are Bosch. If your'es had wiring cut and joined in some way then it was likely that that was causing the problem as Bosch ones are generally regarded as one of the best O2 sensors you can buy.

I got a replacement genuine Bosch (which is what the Volvo ones are) from one of these websites like LambdaPower.com or something (have a Google for online Lambda suppliers) for around £70 I think?

I did the return journey last sunday (90 miles) but the light never came back on after i cleared the fault code beforehand. I haven't driven my car since then. Will update this thread if i have any more problems, thanks all.

Shaun, you have pm.
