Hi,the phrasing used on here is a little confusing sometimes,850's and S/V70's up to 2000 are being referred to as phase one cars,all S80/S60/V70 "new shape" cars are being referred to as phase two cars,so i that respect all S80's are phses two.There was a facelift of the S80 on the 2004 model year where the black bumper mouldings were deleted in favour of body coloured trims,headlamp wipers removed and replaced with high pressure jets and other such detail alterations,so as far as volvo are concerned yours would be an early mark 1 S80, but on here it is a phase two car and the relevant sub section for info and chat would be this section you have posted in.

thanks redview,
the reason i ask is because i have been told on later models (phase 2) the abs modules have to be replaced by new units which have to be programmed and a second hand/rebuilt abs module will not work.
a second hand/rebuilt abs module on early models will work.

my s80 needs an abs module, if i get a rebuilt one (cost approx £100+)

if it is a later model which will only accept a new programmable abs unit (cost £1150)

this is why i would like to know whether its a phase 1 or phase 2

We have fitted used units in the past without problems,we just make sure we match the part no's to the oringinal.If you wish,you can pm me the ecu no. (you will need a mirror to read it as the label is on the underside of the ecu),i will check and see if we have one and if we do then you can send me a cheque which we will not bank until you have fitted the unit and confirmed that all is well.If not then i will return your cheque and you can return the unit.
Hope this helps,Adam.

Les & Reilly, have a look at this ABS ECU for £75;

ebay link (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLVO-V70-S70-S60-S80-abs-stc-ECU-AND-PUMP_W0QQitemZ170248330292QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item 170248330292&_trkparms=72%3A984%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318)

Might be worth a punt.

like i have said mate all S80 are P2's! They were the first car of the P2X platform. (most people refer to them as phase 2 models though, and as readview said, the earlier models, the SVC70 >2000 are known as P1 or Phase 1)

Your car was the first of the S80 but is still a P2 - like every other S80.

However it appears that the BCM you have does not require software, as it was the earlier type of BCM fitted. Cars starting at model year 2002 required the software.
