No one makes them off the shelf but if you buy a whole system OBX sell them in the entire system they sell.

DE-CAT ? ....WHY ? To what end ? And have you done any other upgrades , as you can get far greater power from simple things without having to change bits over at any time you are being tested. [As you would with a de-cat ] Not to mention the pollution our CHILDREN are inheriting if you do it.... If you do want to do it , just go to a fabrication workshop and get a pipe-fitter to make one and then post the mans address on here and give him some work.

The car may well pass the test without a Cat fitted.

Its not a legal requirement to have one if the car doesnt need it

maybe its a track day car :D

If its a track day car it doesn't need an MOT to be on track it only has to pass the scrutinizers on the day plus of course the noise level test... wasn't it sept 1992 when the law was introduced that any vehicle after that date had to have a cat fitted ? for its MOT. Get a cat replacement made that you can just exchange with the cat on MOT day

no, it doesnt have to have a cat fitted! it must pass the emissions test....

if it needs a cat to pass then so be it....if it passes without then so be it

After 91-92 cars are subject to emmissions testing limits which were only easily passable with a cat fitted but that doesn't mean that if it's presented for test without it will fail. It will fail however if it doesn't meet the BET or MET limits for that year/vehicle. I've never seen one go through successfully without a cat but I have seen some get extremely close !

mm i didn't know that however surely its obvious a car that has been set up with a cat will not pass without one ?

Its not the case that cars don't pass without them. A friend of mine isrunning a Harvey Gibbs prepped Escort Cosworth without a Cat and his car is setup spot on and has yet to fail an MOT. It may have something to do with my other friend that works at the MOT station though, lol. I am temped to try an emissions test with my car when I fit the decat just for my own knowledge. I will using a high flow cat though.

It's only usually the CO content that will fail it. Obviously with a cat the CO emmisions are lower as the cat 'mops' up the CO. However manufacturers are getting pretty good at keeping the CO levels low before they enter the cat and some are getting close enough to possibly pass a cat test without one (although they would be close to the limit !). We had a Mondeo in a while ago that passed on Lambda and CO at fast idle but was just outside CO at idle (around 0.35 when the limit was 0.3). At these 'close' limits we normally run a cleaner through the intake (after checking air filter condition etc) but it had no effect so a new cat was fitted. It became apparent when removing the old cat what the problem was, it had absolutely nothing inside it !

My old 95 Laguna passed without one!

Quite funny really, car was losing power up hills & the mechanic who
tests my car said that the Cat has probably broken up
& the bits are blocking the pipe.

Removed the Cat & split it open for a look & saw loads of honeycomb
type stuff rattling around inside.

Fitted a suitable piece of pipe to replace Cat & car ran as it should.

Passed next Mot with no issues.

That is also true - only real complaint was the fuel gauge was always
on so potential joy riders would know whether there was enough fuel
for hours of fun (sort of).

was the complete cat removed? the reason i ask is volvo cats have two seperate parts, the metal honey comb section that wont break up in 10 million years & the ceramic honey comb section that you mention in your laguna....

i have a feeling a standard T5 will pass emissions if you leave the first part in (about 2 inches) & remove the ceramic section(about 4 inches)

race cats only have the first part & seem to scrape thru......
