oh my god you lot could have had an 850 T5-R with hardly anything rong wiv it sooooooo cheaply LOL

just took my car to an auto gearbox specialist and let him take it for a drive and look into the problem.
the gearbox is totaly fine. its not slipping the engine is missfiring under big exeleration.
he said it could be my coil pack, leads or plugs.

just replaced 4 of the plugs and its the same.

missfiring under exeleration?
what do you recon?

one of you could have had such a bargain LOL

well done you for finding an honest garage chap and yes keep it, further down the line that car will buck the trend on depreciation and will make money if looked after right.

Why waste time, replace cheapest first

you've done the plugs now do the leads including the coil lead then if thats still it then the coil pack.

made up for ya chap

Genuine Volvo plugs, every time.

only changed 4 plugs coz halfrauds only had one pack of 4 in stock.
just done a diognostic self test and went through all the plug numbers.
found fault code 4 4 4 on plug 3.
in book 4 4 4 says no power supply to hydrolic modulator valves.
not sure if plug 3 is for that area of the car. and what the hell is a hydrolic modulator valve?

oh good.
where can i get a coil pack from.

i took my car to the autobox specialist and he took it out for a drive when he got back my car was only firing on what sounded like 3 cylinders. drove it home and nearly never made it.
if driven hard car will drive £££££ and missfire but if left to cool will drive normaly again. so cant giv any hard exeleration otherwise it missfires till it cools down.

Rufe works at a volvo dealers and can normally get customer discount for vpcuk if your after a new one or perhaps another member may have a good second hand one to spare if not to sell then at least to check to see if it is faulty

Have you tried the A2 codes....
I am astounded that you could confuse a missfire for transmission slip... TBH...
Cheers

this mis fire reminds me of when i had a renault laguna the engine mount snapped under the engine and caused it well it took me ages to find what it was as the engine mount was holding its own and no engine movement

stainesy
Tuesday 5th August 2008, 18:12
well i no my top engine mount bush has a split in the rubber but i dout that would cause it.

will try a2 codes now. think i already did tho and just got 111.

is there ment to be a bit in each of the plugs coz i dont have one in plug 6. its got nothing inside to plug into.

stainesy
Tuesday 5th August 2008, 18:17
just checked A2 and got code 111.
have noticed there is no plug inside A5 or A6 is that normal?

Yes this would be normal for your marque....
1-1-1 signifies there are no codes logged...

As far as i am aware there is a big diffrence between a missfire and a gearbox/clutch slip.
A miss would be hesitant and stuttery and a clutch/gearbox slip would send the revs high then the power would catch the revs up....

Get a 3rd opinion.....you already said you dads mate ( a top bmw mechanic ) said it was defo the clutch plates?

I would hope that any decent member who had gone to look at it would have told you it was a missfire and not the gearbox, rather than take advantage. Glad to hear it's something simple after all.

Saturday 9th August 2008, 00:05
Who? Stainsey keep something secret?! You're having a laugh aren't you!!

There are some other posts revealing the 'secret' - it was apparently an ignition/leads/plugs fault all along!

Amen!!
