Just got back after being recovered by the AA, the car has decided to dump all it's PAS fluid out of the rack.

It appears to be coming from the gaiter according to the AA man, which I assume means the end seal has let go.

Is this the case? Cheers :)

I got my 99 V70 reasonably cheap as it was leaking fluid from the
nearside gaitor.

Volvo price was around £460 exchange.

I found a low mileage used part for £115 delivered & my local
Bmw specialist fitted for £100 all in.

I was going to fit it myself but the mechanic said that you really need
access to a four poster the rear sub frame needs to be lowered & he
wouldnt like to trust axle stands for this kind of job.

The job is pretty straightforward but getting the rack in & out is a bit
fiddly.

All sorted now, supplied & fitted new rack for £300-ish :)

Pulls a tiny bit to the left but I'm not worried about that, I think it was just the camber of the road I was on... Steering is so much lighter and it feels a lot more planted now!

Apparently both ends of the rack were buggered, both seals perished and it was high time it was replaced - car was *just* about to roll over 90k at that point too (think it was 6 or 7 miles off 90k when it let go...)

I'm not sure mate, the garage sourced it for me... I use a little independent place in Sunderland called Bank Top Autos.

Stick a couple of new track rod ends on it if they're not new already and get wheel alignment done, a must!!!!!!!!!!
