looking at the engine bay from the fron is cylinder number 2 the 2nd from the left or 2nd from the right?

2nd from the left. The 'back' of the engine is the side with the gearbox attached, hence calling it the 'rear' main seal.

The 'front' and 'rear' makes more sense when you picture a rear wheel drive car, which have longitudinal mounted engines, which obviously have the gearbox at the back, and the timing belt at the front.

I was taught that the front of the engine is usually
the end with the water pump attached to it.

cheers everyone
i had a code p0302 so i moved the coil acroos to cylinder 1 and got a code p0301 so a happy bunny as ive solved my misfire all being well
paid £38 from my local motor factors and it will be with me in the morning :)

No there not:funkybana Hondas have there DOR anti clockwise and the engine on the N/S of the car, thus No/ 1 cylinder being on the right.
